  • 3 Phase Wiring Diagram Critique

Working on a a 3phase 6 5000W element build. Plan on GFCI protecting each phase of a balanced Delta circuit. Anyone see why this would be a problem?

    Wiring digram

Without knowing the HP ratings of the motors, the diagram looks fine.

However, there are no heating elements in the circuit. Double check the Main breaker size and make sure you can operate a pump when heating.

There will be 3 208V 5000W elements wired in delta per vessel (2 vessels) with a total anticipated draw of 85amps
Im just trying to figure out if the GFCI's will work in this application.

        GFCIs

I believe there are GFCI breakers with an industrial rating that is more robust than typical residential grade gear in the way they respond to faults. Otherwise the trip level is not some damn hair trigger.
Otherwise with this type of setup I would have to ask why you feel the necessity for GFCI?
" Delta " is a 3 phase configuration. Your feeds are shown as single phase.
It is unusual to run a control leg through a line contactor as it is drawn.
As noted some of the symbols are incorrect.

Thanks for your review. I guess the question I should be asking is what do people do about protecting three phase immersion elements in the kettles?
"Otherwise with this type of setup I would have to ask why you feel the necessity for GFCI?" I just assumed since there are 40+amps @208V around liquid you would need some type of person protection - Do you not need one?

            Hardwired Systems

If the system is put together with the correct EGC [Equipment Ground Conductor], and the wire and breaker is sized correctly then the Overcurrent device should be adequate.
GFCIs are typically not required for this type of system as far as I know. I think if you interact with some experts on the subject you may find some additional pointers.

Also depending on your experience with GFCI devices you can substitute the name " Nuisance Trip Out Device " or " All the time Trip Out Device in the absence of a real fault."
They are not what they are cracked up to be.
            Some things to consider.
            Electricity is dangerous by nature.
We live in an age that is mostly devoid of common sense.
The NEC is in some measure attempting to micro-manage some things that are better off left alone, although seemingly well intended
Working around Electricity requires common sense.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
Working with Engineered systems, it helps to have above average common sense along with Electrical-Mechanical Savvy
Almost everything under the sun is ' Over Engineered "
People are letting Technology run them rather than vice versa.
Everyone is letting " Bureaucracy " and the Scientific_Military dictatorship control too much of our reality.

            All the best
