  • Where to source vessel-mounted individual temperature controls?

I'm receiving 4 new tanks and don't think I want to go to the expense of running them to my master panel control (I'm out of room on my panel so I'd need to have an additional panel added, I'm sure this is gonna run into big bucks... no bueno!)

Where can I source a "soup to nuts" vessel mounted temp controls?

    Danke!

I have used Ranco Temp Controllers for years with success.

      Yes thanks Matt!

That connects to the solenoid too I gather?

Is there hardware available to mount it to the tank? Or what is the best way to do that?

GW Kent has sa couple to choose from as well, including the one noted above.... of course, Kent isn't necessarily known for having the best prices, but you can check it out.

Control the temperature of your beer or wine during fermentation with quality equipment available through GW Kent. Easy to install and use.

So I've sourced the Ranco controllers, can anyone help me understand how to attach to the tank?

Does it involve attaching a tri-clamp fitting that's threaded on one end to the back of the Ranco with a nut and then just tri-clamp that to the probe port?

We usually mount them to the wall behind the tank but you can drill holes into a fermentor leg or come up with some type of bracket. There are mounting holes on the Ranco you just have to figure out the best way to hook them up for your situation. I personally dont like them mounted directly to the tank because they tend to get wet when cleaning. Also the Rancos just have the temp probe terminate in a small epooxy/plastic probe at the end of the wire. You have to buy some type of MNPT fitting if you want them to screw into the Thermowell. Electrical supply place or Grainger would have something but you can just lay them in the Thermowell and fill the gap with something.

The quick and dirty mounting solution is to drill holes in a couple large hose clamps, bolt the controller to them, and then tighten them down on some insulation/tape/whatever wrapped around the CIP arm.

Beer is like porn. You can buy it, but it's more fun to make your own.

I would use the included probe in a sani thermowell. Much easier than trying to find/order/wire/install some type of stainless probe.

Something to keep in mind: The controller body is not advertised as waterproof, so mount wisely and/or be careful not to spray it down.

These things are great - cheap, easy to install/use, and do one-point, on/off control well. I've seen them in several breweries.
