  • Tanks are coming - rigging company?

Hey all, we have 12 7bbl tanks headed our way shortly - likely within 2 weeks or so and didn't line up a backup plan for placement/delivery - mistake # 974 or so.

Anyway, we'd like a recommendation on a rigger/rigging company/outfit in the Richmond VA area if anyone has one. Our space has some odd angles/slope/elevation to deal with and we aren't the most adept with a forklift - we'd like this done right.

Any recommendations would be great. Thanks.

I can move my 20bbl jacketed fermenters around with a pallet jack by myself, and push my 10bbl ones by hand by myself. Forklift and rigging company seem overkill in this situation.

Just to echo the above, you don't need to be a Nascar forklift driver to move 7bbl tanks. If you're worried about it, lag bolt the feet to a sturdy pallet, then use a ratcheting tie strap to anchor the pallet to the fork lift. If you happen to hit an odd angle the tank will remain stable. With 12 tanks, you'll have plenty of practice - just take it slow and make sure you have a spotter watching the corners and such before you make the turns.

7bbl tanks are fairly easy to move around with a couple people. You'll want a forklift to get them off the truck. We laid ours down on their sides using a couple strong guys (5-6 for safety) onto pallets because they wouldn't come in the building we are in upright. Then once inside we moved around with a pallet jack and then had the same crew upright them.

You should be good as long as you can get them off the truck.

Hey all, very much appreciate all the DIY votes of confidence, but for double the price of a forklift rental we secured a local rigging company to handle it. We'll use this is a learning experience for any future moves. The slope/grade of the sidewalk getting into our loading dock is pretty steep - not SF steep, but enough for Richmond. Thanks again.

In other news, our TTB specialist has sent our packet over to final approval. Pretty happy about that considering the shutdown and all. Thanks again everyone.
