    Brewmaster Position - New York, Farm Based

    We are a farm based brewery on the outskirts of New York city looking to hire a head brewer. The position is for an experienced brewer that has worked in breweries between 10-50 bbls in size.

    We are a small team looking for an entrepreneurial brewer who wants to help build a great company and brand around great beer. We are not a brewpub. Our core focus is quality beer.

    Our brewery is positioned for significant growth. New York city a global epicenter of farm-to-table cuisine and great craft beer is just a couple hours away.

    Description:
    • Complete competence in operating a 15bbl system from grain to glass

    • Lead the development of new products by creating new recipes for seasonal and specialty beers and coordinated test brews. Provide operational and qualitative input for recipe development. Keep recipes updated and adjusted to meet quantitative and qualitative goals. Create product definitions and recipes, descriptions, standard costs and revision controls

    • Responsible for brewery budgeting/financial planning, capacity modeling, brewery expansion planning, brewery equipment sourcing and maintenance, brewery logistics, inventory management, ordering of materials, the brewery schedule and production of a consistently quality product

    • Work closely with our head of farming operations to select raw materials for purchase and crops grown onsite (hops, barley, other)

    • Management of brewing team members. You will have help on most brew days from other employees/assistant brewers, and you must be able to work efficiently while instructing and training others

    • Periodically represent the brewery at festivals, events, competitions, etc.


    Requirements:
    1. Five or more years of professional brewing experience
    2. Someone who is obsessed with making beer better of highest quality and originality
    3. Someone who is resourceful and adaptable to the challenges of a start-up. Previous start-up experience is valued
    4. Bachelor’s Degree and/or Certificate from an accredited brewing science school preferred


    This position participates as an experienced member in strategic planning of the company, representing the brewing and operations functions, contributing ideas and direction as needed for planning, execution and reporting.

    Our ideal hire is someone who can consult for a few months to support the start up process then come onboard full time as our Brewmaster in summer 2014. But, we may have to rely on a consultant to help us through the start up and transition in a head brewer once we’re underway.

    Full time compensation is salary based commensurate with experience including profit sharing. Benefits will include paid vacation days, medical and 401k.
