    JOB TITLE: Director of Upper Hand Brewing
    LOCATION: Escanaba
    REPORTS TO: CEO
    POSITION TYPE: Full-time, Salaried

    SUMMARY: As a key member of Bell’s Brewery’s executive leadership team the Director of Upper Hand Brewing leads all operations of the Upper Hand Brewery. Responsibilities include the overall operations of brewing, packaging, distribution, administration, marketing, retail, and finance.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery.
    •Appropriately represents the Upper Hand Brewing brand in the Upper Peninsula.
    •Leads the day-to-day operation of the brewery. Ensures that product meets Bells’ standards for quality.
    •Understands the beer production process and has the ability to troubleshoot problems.
    •Creates production schedules, maintains an organized office, and appropriate records.
    •Orders all raw materials and ingredients. Processes distributor orders.
    •Responsible for fiscal oversight including profit and loss for the local operation.
    •Utilizes Microsoft Great Plains software for inventory management and financial reporting.
    •Attends executive team leadership meetings.
    •Manages projects including capital investments, engineering initiatives, and retail operations.
    •Hires, trains, and develops employees. Manages employee performance.
    •Complies with employment regulations and maintains a culture consistent with the Bell’s employment philosophy.
    •Positively assists with employee questions relating to human resources programs and policies.
    •Leads retail sales function for Upper Hand Brewing point of sale items. Ensures trueness to the Bell’s brand.
    •Ensures that each visitor experience positively represents the brand for beer tastings and tours.
    •Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Supervises all employees of the Upper Hand Brewery.

    IMPORTANT SKILLS and ABILITIES:
    •Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or production management with a minimum of eight - ten (8-10) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    •Exceptional leadership skills.
    •Previous experience with profit and loss responsibility for an operation.
    •Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable addressing diverse groups
    •Strong computer skills necessary in order to quickly learn the use of Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Upper Hand Brewing both internally and externally.
    •A strategic visionary with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •An intelligent and articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels and possesses excellent communication skills.

    •Performance duties of this job include regularly being required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk, hear, and smell.

    •Ability to travel and attend public events as necessary to represent the organization.
    •Ability to occasionally reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and climb.
    •Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    •Must be able to participate in organoleptic assessment of beers.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •The work environment is usually that of a brewery.
    •The employee frequently must work in a sterile environment.
    •The noise level in certain parts of the brewery is occasionally loud (80-90 dB).
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, flame, hot water, and steam.
    •The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee regularly works with hazardous materials.
