    POSITION SUMMARY: Executes all areas of beer production brewing, cellar and packaging through operating and maintaining site equipment needed to process grains, produce wort, yeast management, monitor fermentation, and oversee conditioning of beer. Additionally operate and maintain equipment needed to package beer in a variety of containers including kegs and bottles. This position reports to Ore Dock Brewing Company’s head brewer.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Operates grain processing and brewhouse equipment according to standardized procedures.
    • Cleans and maintains grain handling and brewing facilities.
    • Upholds quality standards.
    • Operates CIP (Clean In Place) system and Cellar equipment according to standardized operating procedures.
    • Monitor fermentations.
    • Continual lifting, dragging, carrying, and manipulating of hoses, parts, pumps, buckets, and reservoirs, requiring standing, walking, crouching, and lifting regularly throughout the duration of shift.
    • Yeast handling, including laboratory cell counts, pitching, and cropping yeast.
    • Transferring and clarification of beer; setup and tear-down of hard and soft piping assemblies.
    • Prepare beer for Packaging.
    • Operate packaging equipment.
    • Clean and maintain bottling and kegging facilities.
    • Sanitation of all beer contact surfaces and equipment.
    • Performs routine preventative maintenance and cleaning on equipment and infrastructure.
    • Troubleshoots equipment problems within the brewing facilities.
    • Function well working in a team environment.
    • Must be available to work a set, weekday schedule, but have flexibility to work odd hours as needed.
    • Sanitary sampling, yeast cell counts.
    • QC lab analysis of products.
    • Record keeping of all beers produced.

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:

    • Forklift trucks
    • A variety of hand and power tools
    • Cleaning agents and other hazardous chemicals
    • Computer equipment
    • Pumps, hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment
    • Automated packaging equipment
    • Touchscreen machine controls
    • Compressed air or other gasses, including C02

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Ability to troubleshoot problems
    • Ability to learn new tasks quickly.
    • Ability to identify and articulate issues.
    • Ability to follow written instruction to a T.
    • Ability to work unsupervised while maintaining safety and quality standards.
    • An understanding of lock-out/tag-out and other core safety issues.
    • Interpersonal skills sufficient to be comfortable working in a team environment with a great deal of interdepartmental coordination.
    • The ability and aptitude to work with and troubleshoot equipment.
    • The ability to operate a forklift.
    • The ability to operate a snow-blower and shovel.
    • Must be able to lift grain sacks (55#) and maneuver full half bbl kegs (190+#)
    • Positive outlook and attitude.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    • Self motivated with outstanding time management skills.
    • Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.
    • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with staff throughout the brewery.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    • Up to 3 years of combined experience in brewing, cellar, and packaging demonstrating progressive levels of responsibility.
    • An unbreakable passion for craft beer and a soft spot for French and Belgian Ales.
    • Formal brewing education, trade school or a four- year college degree.
    • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Internet.
    • Possess the temperament and flexibility to work effectively in a fast-paced and energetic environment
    • Proven work record, work ethic and a get it done mentality.

    • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Must be able to participate in critical assessment of beers.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    • The work environment is usually that of a brewing and packaging facility.
    • The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.
    • The noise level in the packaging facilities is frequently loud (80+ dB)
    • The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, and steam.
    • The employee comes in contact with and has to handle broken glass.
    • The employee regularly works with hazardous materials.
    • The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    • The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
