Wanted Head Brewer for Mumbai’s first Microbrewery
The Barking Deer Brewpub & Restaurant is Mumbai's first Microbrewery and since November 2013 has already built a reputation for great tasting craft beer served in a fun, relaxed American-style brewpub. We are looking for an experienced head brewer to run our brewing operations and help us expand to other locations in Mumbai and other Indian cities. Seven Islands Craft Brewery Pvt Ltd is the parent company, a Mumbai-based company owned by a consortium of local and international investors.
The Opportunity:
The opportunity to make your professional mark on Indian brewing history is an exciting prospect. We brew only the highest-quality craft beer and do so in fun and innovative ways to the thirsty city of Mumbai. The Head Brewer will have the chance to educate Mumbai about international beer styles and also to explore creative ideas using Indian flavours to brew new and innovative beer styles.
Candidate Qualities:
• Experienced – 5+ years of brewer experience at a craft brewery/brewpub
• Trained and certified
• Creative – with the ability to improvise and formulate winning recipes customized to the Indian palette.
• Passion for Brewing – sees brewing as more than a technical process but an artform.
• Problem solver – particularly with system and engineering issues
• Teacher – ability to train Indian brewers to become craft brewers in their own right.
• Positive & cooperative attitude, and ability to work well as a team member
• Adaptable – life in Mumbai throws you many curve balls.
• Adventurous spirit – being the Head Brewer of the first brewpub in Mumbai will be a highly rewarding and one-of-a-kind adventure.
Job Responsibilities
• Overseeing craft beer production utilizing top notch brewing system – 3 HL brewhouse Newlands System.
• Overseeing the repair and maintenance of brewing systems.
• Developing beer recipes that are both true to European/US beer styles and tailored to Indian tastes.
• Managing a staff of 2 brewers presently.
• Training company brewers on the art of craft beer to enable them to be capable brewers themselves
• Advising on the coordination, construction and technical requirements of new brewpubs under development.
• Attending marketing events, conferences and F&B conventions
• Conducting product & educational outreach including festivals, beer tastings, food pairings events and brewery tours.
• Promote the brand through strong press relations.
