Essential Functions
- Responsible for day-to-day management of the maintenance department
- Ensures proper execution of maintenance routine according to instruction and schedules
- Ensures compliance with all environmental quality and safety standards related to the department; supports continuous improvement and root cause analysis processes
- Accountable for equipment reliability and ownership of the entire maintenance process; provides guidance and oversees troubleshooting of equipment issues
- Responsible for managing the maintenance budget for the department
- Manages the development of the department’s resources through training and coaching
- Serves as point person for brewery utilities such as glycol chillers, air compressors, boilers and CO2 storage / vaporization
- Is competent with a CMMS for tracking assets, work orders, and preventive maintenance
- Can apply knowledge of food safety and food handling
- Establishes and maintains a spare parts inventory
- Works with Head Brewer to maintain brewhouse equipment
- Works with Packaging Manager to maintain packaging equipment
- Works with resident engineer to implement improvements and upgrades
- Works with management team to contribute to long-term strategic planning
- Ensures the efficient and safe operation of all equipment
- Maintains a safe work environment in accordance with regulations and standards
- Troubleshoots mechanical, plumbing, process, electrical, pneumatic, VFDs, PLCs, and other electronic equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- B.S. required in Electrical or Process Engineering; will also consider Mechanical, Chemical or other Engineering degrees
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant technical experience, preferably in the brewing or beverage industry
- Minimum of three to five (3-5) years of supervisory experience
- Specific Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong background in electrical systems such as controls, automation, VFDs, PLCs is essential
- Strong background in mechanical systems such as welding, part fabrication, fluid transfer, pneumatics, plumbing is desired
- Knowledge of refrigeration systems, boilers/steam principles, and HVAC
- Practical experience with high-speed bottling/packaging operations in food/beverage industries is preferred but not required
- Knowledge of brewery processes and terminology is essential
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations and proper safety procedures, including lock out/tag out and other required safety protocols
- Ability to work with outside contractors, obtain quotes, and execute capital projects
- Self motivated with ability to work independently with limited direction and within a team environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient in computer software such as the MS Office suite, MS Project, AutoCAD with the ability to learn MP2 (brewery CMMS)
Working Conditions
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform physically demanding work
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds as required
- Ability to safely and competently work on and around potentially hazardous equipment, machinery and systems
- Willingness to work in an environment with high noise levels
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends and respond to emergencies
- The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and an exemplary driving record. A satisfactory background check, in conformance with established Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. employment standards, will be required as a post-offer, pre-employment check.
