    HEAD BREWER POSITION


    Experience & Education

    We are a startup brewery in Missoula, Montana, with a 32 barrel brewing system, looking for a Head Brewer. We have revived a historical brand in the region, known as Highlander Beer. Since 2008, it has been made by contract, but now we are opening our own brewery. There’s a great opportunity here for the right person to live in one of the most beautiful places in the world, make some great beer and have a good livelihood. Start time for the position is in approximately August 1, 2014.

    We are looking for an individual who has at least three years of brewing experience in the craft beer industry and preferably, has formal training from a recognized university or brewing academy. The best candidate will have previously been a head brewer (or the equivalent) working at a brewery with at least a 10 barrel system and would feel comfortable operating a much larger system. Experience with packaging product in cans and/or bottles is preferred. Must have experience with modern systems and controls. As part of his/her brewing experience, the individual should have successfully developed beer recipes, sourced ingredients and worked in a facility with a taproom or brewpub.

    The right candidate will have a positive attitude, be friendly and sincere, with good communication skills. He/she should be flexible, organized, hard-working, but fun loving. The right candidate will have a great passion for making the very best beer. We hope to find the right person who can grow with the business and be a critical part of our brewery for many years to come.

    Duties

    As contemplated, the Head Brewer will have the following responsibilities and duties:

    -- responsible for day to day operations of the brewery to supply both the taproom and for packaged product assembly

    -- develop new beer recipes, sourcing and ordering ingredients and inventory of ingredients and product; planning beer production to meet sales demand; ensure quality and consistency of product; overseeing the production of all beer made at the facility

    -- developing standards, procedures and protocols for brewing; testing to ensure these are maintained; implementing detailed cleaning regiments; develop maintenance programs and safety schedules, protocols

    -- interview, hire and supervise other employees in brewery section of business; schedule brewery employees

    -- keep and maintain accurate records; prepare reliable projections

    Physical Requirements

    Must be able to walk and climb stairs, move and wrestle hoses, lift and move up to 50 lbs, read and understand scientific instrumentation, have solid math skills and to work long hours on his/her feet, if necessary.

    Pay

    Pay will be based on experience. Strong performance and production will be rewarded with monetary bonuses. Basic health insurance provided. The Head Brewer will have a brewer’s assistant.
