    JOB TITLE: Cellar Manager
    LOCATION: Comstock Brewery
    REPORTS TO: Beer Production Manager
    POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Salaried Employee

    POSITION SUMMARY:As a key member of the Beer Production leadership team, the Cellar Manager leads all aspects of the cold-side operation at Bell’s production brewery in Comstock, MI. Responsibilities include managing the day-to-day activities of 12 cellar team members, developing standard operating procedures, troubleshooting production issues and preparing for future growth while upholding the high safety and quality standards of Bell’s Brewery, Inc.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery.
    •Lead the day-to-day activities of all Cellar operations.
    •Directly responsible for maintaining Bell’s quality standards in all aspects of the Cellar operation.
    •Advocates a continuous improvement culture throughout the Cellar operation.
    •Manage Cellar personnel scheduling and timecards.
    •Actively engages his/her employees towards developing their professional goals.
    •Conduct annual performance appraisals with all direct reports.
    •Talent acquisition and training of new Cellar team members.
    •Effectively represent the Cellar team’s needs in weekly Beer Production meetings regarding production scheduling, beer quality, and human resources.
    •Create, review and maintain all department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    •Holds self and employees accountable for maintaining a sanitary and micro-biologically stable work environment.
    •Maintain the exceptional health and ample supply of Bell’s yeast.
    •Ensure completion of cellar operator Preventative Maintenance tasks.
    •Conduct critical assessment of Bell’s beers through active participation in raw material and beer sensory panels.
    •Review and act upon critical process control data.
    •Troubleshoot and solve production problems in a systematic fashion.
    •Lead team members through Root Cause Analysis exercises.
    •Maintain an accurate in-process product inventory system.
    •Facilitate future growth of the brewery through continuous optimization of current processes, installation of new equipment and implementation of new brewery systems.
    •Work with senior management on new product development initiatives.
    •Flexible schedule. 24-hour, 7-day on-call status, required.
    •Shift coverage as necessary.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Supervises all Cellar team members.

    •Must possess a valid driver’s license
    •Access to a personal vehicle.

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •Computers and other process automation systems
    •Brewing raw materials
    •Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals
    •Centrifuge
    •Pumps
    •Hoses, valves, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Exceptional leadership skills.
    •Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable addressing diverse groups
    •Strong computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    •Self motivated with good time management skills.
    •Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or production management preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    •Extensive brewery experience, including leadership roles.
    •A brewing certification, diploma or degree.
    •Demonstrated mastery of the brewing process.
    •Outstanding communication and problem solving skills.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •Work is primarily performed in an office environment with occasional trips to operational areas required.
    •The work environment is usually that of a brewery.
    •The employee regularly works with hazardous materials.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, and steam.
    •The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.
