    JOB TITLE: Packaging Materials Specialist
    LOCATION: Comstock Brewery
    REPORTS TO: Packaging Manager
    POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Hourly
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 03/06/2014-03/12/2014

    POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the procurement, inventory and analysis of all packaging materials; assists in ensuring that the final product including the beer and all necessary packaging materials are of the highest quality.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following.
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc., and is accountable for the safety of their department.
    •Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and the company.
    •Research and ensure that departmental practices are in keeping with industry best practices.
    •Monitors and tracks packaging material inventory and performs periodic inventory audits.
    •Interfaces with Production Scheduling and Logistics Management to ensure the timely completion of the Packaging Schedule.
    •Follow-up with vendors to schedule and expedite deliveries.
    •Work with vendors to resolve all over, short, and damaged (OS&D), missed, or late deliveries and other issues that may arise with vendors.
    •Collaborate with other Bell’s locations/departments with assistance in collecting bill of ladings, packing slips, and/or quotes to ensure prompt processing of Purchase Orders.
    •Close out Purchase Order upon completions of Purchase Order process, including receipt entry and batch posting in Microsoft Dynamics GP.
    •Assist in counting and entering department inventories in Microsoft Dynamics GP.
    •Examines material performance and production data to ensure efficient utilization of packaging materials.
    •Interfaces with Packaging Engineer to consult on new packaging equipment as needed.
    •Manages packaging material supplier relationships.
    •Reviews packaging material purchase agreements and/or contracts to ensure best possible pricing and quality of materials.
    •Sources and audits new packaging material vendors, as necessary.
    • Alerts the Packaging Personnel Manager to potential concerns.

    OTHER DUTIES:
    •Uses forklift to move pallets, supplies, finished product, etc.
    •May use the company van for any deliveries and or pickups.
    •Any other brewery related issues that may require assistance.
    •May assist with cellar department issues if needed.
    •May unload any trucking deliveries.
    •Assists bottling, keg and canning shifts.

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •None

    •Must possess a valid driver’s license

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:

    •Automated packaging equipment
    •Forklift trucks
    •A variety of hand and power tools
    •Cleaning agents and other hazardous chemicals

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Advance proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access
    •Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
    •A high level of professionalism.
    •Good mechanical skills.
    •Ability to troubleshoot problems.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •A Bachelors Degree in Logistics, Operations, Packaging, Food Science, Engineering or other relevant field.
    •Prior experience in beer production and packaging technology.
    •Experience with Microsoft Dynamics, Dynamics GP.
    •Prior experience in Customer Service, Sales Support and/or Order procurement.
    •Working knowledge of Microsoft office with a focus on Outlook and Excel.
    •Prior Industry experience.

    •Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    •Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •Work is primarily performed in a shared office environment with occasional trips to operational areas required.
    •The work environment is that of a brewing and packaging facility
    •The employee frequently must work in a sterile environment.
    •The noise level in the packaging facilities is frequently loud (80+ dB)
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, steam and flame
    •The employee regularly works with pressurized vessels
    •The employee comes in contact with and has to handle broken glass.
    •The employee handles hazardous materials.
    •The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
