    JOB TITLE: Process Control Technician
    LOCATION: Comstock, MI Brewery
    REPORTS TO: Beer Process Manager
    POSITION TYPE: Full-Time, Hourly
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 03/11/2014-03/25/2014

    SUMMARY: Responsible for the reliable operation of all aspects of the Beer Production control systems including instrumentation, PLC based control system, controls wiring, etc., developing standard operating procedures, troubleshooting production issues and preparing for future growth while upholding the high safety and quality standards of Bell’s Brewery, Inc.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Including the following, other duties may be assigned.
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety First” culture of Bell’s Brewery.
    •Maintain all existing process instrumentation.
    •Performs or supervises all necessary instrument calibration/verification.
    •Responds to customer concerns for issues with existing control systems.
    •Perform PLC and process control systems troubleshooting as required.
    •Maintain PLC logic, alarms, interlocks, and operator displays for safe and optimized control.
    •Enhances the operations of the existing control systems.
    •Utilize Bell’s EAM software system (Infor) to document maintenance activities.
    •Maintain and update controls wiring diagrams.
    •Create, review and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    •Establish and perform preventative maintenance tasks.
    •Assist Beer Production Maintenance Technician as needed.
    •Manage and perform PLC and instrumentation field hardware maintenance and upgrades.
    •Coordinate future capital expansions and enhancements to the Beer Production control system.
    •Advocates a continuous improvement culture throughout the Beer Production operation.
    •Supports inter- and intra-departmental initiatives.
    •Flexible schedule. Shared on-call responsibilities required.

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •Computers and other process automation systems
    oSoftware (Siemans Simatic Manger, Visual Basic 6.0 and ProLeiT Brewmaxx)
    •Multi-meter and other electronic tools
    •Brewing raw materials
    •Cleaning and sanitizing chemicals
    •Hoses, valves, pumps, clamps, gaskets, and other brewery equipment

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable addressing diverse groups
    •Strong computer skills necessary to quickly learn Bells’ software systems.
    •An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards who will positively represent Bell’s Brewery both internally and externally.
    •A well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
    •Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple processes at one time.
    •Self motivated with good time management skills.
    •Ability to coordinate with other departments according to schedule.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •A Bachelors degree in Process Control, Electrical, Computer related or general Engineering preferred.
    •A minimum of 1-2 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    •A passion for beer and prior experience at a production brewery in automation system maintenance.
    •PC/server and Ethernet network troubleshooting ability.
    • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in process control and processing analysis.
    •Prior experience with Visual Basic 6.0 and/or ProLeiT Brewmaxx.
    • Ability to research, analyze information, draw conclusions, and take action to resolve process control issues in an operating plant.
    •Prior experience installing, troubleshooting and programming Siemens PLC systems
    •Prior experience installing and programming PLC systems
    •An understanding of the brewing process.

    •Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
    •Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    •Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •Work is primarily performed in an office environment with regular trips to operational areas required.
    •The work environment is usually that of a brewery.
    •The employee regularly works with hazardous materials.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, and steam.
    •The employee frequently must work in a sanitary environment.
