  • Micro vs Pilot

After reading some paperwork in the federal brewery packet I ran into some stuff that places a brewery permit in two catagories. Micro-brewery and a pilot-brewery. I know that typically a pilot is very, very small but what is the difference to the gov't? Different taxes?

    thanks

      Like prison?

Don't get caught, it's a federal offence...unless you like prison

This is just a guess, but I think that getting a pilot brewery license lets the big brewers pay the lower excise tax rate for small breweries, on the beer they produce and sell from the pilot brewery.

You can start with a 1/2 bbl system, just ask Dogfish Head.

Half barrel or 100 barrel, Uncle Sam will still send the BATF to collect their pound of flesh!!! And then the Commonwealth of Virginia will come by to collect the scraps...

...and then the IRS will want a cut!

          Durn revenoooers!

          Cheers, Tim
