    Silver Moon Brewing, founded in 2000 is the third oldest brewery in Bend Oregon. We are an established brewery with a long history of producing award winning beer. We are looking for a seasoned Head Brewer with experience in a leadership role. This is a working head brewer role encompassing all aspects of brewery operations. An ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of production brewery experience, extensive knowledge and understanding of the entire brewery operations from grain to glass, been involved in planning and implementing brewery expansion and have a proven track record creating recipes for, and brewing great beer. This is a leadership position both inside the brewery as well as outside as a spokesperson and representative of Silver Moon Brewing.

    Head Brewer Requirements:
    - Fermentation Science degree or applicable formal brewing education
    - Ability to develop recipes, schedule, rack, cellar, and brew innovative and high quality beer

    - Proven track record of successful recipe creation
    - Great attitude, desire to work hard and have fun doing it

    Head Brewer Job Description

    The position of Head Brewer is responsible for the creation, development and packaging of all beer produced, marketed and sold by Silver Moon Brewing. The Head Brewer role is a position of Leadership, both inside and outside of the brewing facility.
    Essential Functions / Responsibilities
    • Responsible for the entire brewing and quality control processes and hence should be well versed in scheduling, brewing, cellaring and packaging operations.
    • Recipe development; create award winning beers, maintain the quality and integrity of existing core brands, participate in market research and internal strategy discussions to identify new core brands and specialty beers.
    • Manage raw materials, inventory control, scheduling and hop contracts.
    • Sanitary sampling, yeast cell counts and record keeping of all beers produced.
    • Cellar operations including filtration, tank transfer, sanitation procedures.
    • Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, general cleanliness and sanitization of the brewing facility.
    • Coordinating operations with Packaging, Maintenance, QC and Shipping functions.
    • Work closely with management team and outside resources to plan and implement brewery expansion plan
    • Strong verbal communication and organization skills.
    • Hands-on leadership skills for developing and training a team. Assure that Assistant Brewer and Cellerman can operate the brewery when absent.
    • Good understanding of quality assurance / quality control, and problem solving skills to troubleshoot any beer related issues.
    • Manage client & vendor relationships as requested by management.
    • Participation in events, festivals, promotions, tastings, etc.
    • Responsive participation in marketing activities, including public events, and proof reading for literature, marketing collateral and any language printed on labels and similar packaging.
    • Production scheduling/management. Develop and maintain a 12 month plan along with a 90 day brewing roadmap. Documentation of a 3 week detailed production schedule must exist at all times.
    • Responsible for timely completion and filing of both monthly OLCC reports, and quarterly TTB reports, as well as weekly tracking of the appropriate information and data needed to complete these reports.
    • The expectation of employment is dedication and time spent supporting business objectives, with a “whatever it takes” attitude and commitment

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Five years of experience as head brewer or lead brewer in a commercial production brewery.
    • Formal brewing education.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Calendar and Mail.
    • Well organized, self motivated, with the ability to work independently.
    • In possession of a high level of integrity, confidence, and the ability to forge strong professional relationships quickly.
    • Brewery knowledge, from the making of beer to all forms of packaging.
    • Must be able to travel extensively within the region.
    • Strong desire to continue to grow professionally.
    • Must possess a current driver license.
    •Good written communication skills. Must possess the ability to develop and provide all necessary written reports, business correspondence and presentations necessary to satisfy job requirements.
    •Good oral communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
