  • Recommended bittering hop for use across 6 different beers

    I'm brewing 6 core beers:
    West coast pale ale
    Kolsch
    Wheat
    IPA
    Porter
    Red ale

To keep my costs down I want to use one bittering hop across all of the recipes.
I'm in china and don't have access to much besides the Barth Haas catalogue.

    Any recommendations?

I would recommend German Perle. I use it to bitter all my german beers (four of my house beers are German/Bavarian) and I use it for flavoring in my Pale Ale.

      What can you get?

Bad market out there now! I would look at a high-alpha, clean bittering hop that has very good storage characteristics and is generally available. I use German Magnum.

          Thanks for the tips.
I've decided to go with Magnum. It's the best deal I can get over here as well so it's a win-win.

          Cheers,

Magnum is a great hop. We use Nugget for all our bittering and make almost the identical beer styles you listed.

Magnum is good. I'm a big fan of Apollo. Clean and 18% alpha. We use Nugget on beers I want a little more bittering character in too, IPA, Stout, etc..

We use Galena, but only because Magnum wasn't available.

You should be able to get Columbus from Barth Haas, good for bittering and pretty much anything alse

Nugget would be my first choice.

We also use Magnum for almost all beers, very clean and pleasant bitterness that doesn't clash with other hops.
