    JOB TITLE: Brewer Mechanic
    LOCATION: Upper Hand Brewery in Escanaba, MI
    REPORTS TO: Production Manager
    POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Hourly Employee

    POSITION SUMMARY: A vital member of the Upper Hand Brewery team, the resident Brewer Mechanic assists in operation, maintenance, commissioning, and installation of brewing, cellaring, and packaging equipment, as well as shared utilities, facilities, assets, and workspaces.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Upper Hand Brewery.
    •Performs routine preventative maintenance, cleaning, and daily upkeep on mechanical equipment and systems.
    •Manages inventories of wearable parts and critical spares, communicating all purchase orders, work orders, and replacements to appropriate parties.
    •Troubleshoots equipment problems within the brewery.
    •Commissions and calibrates new equipment and instruments as needed.
    •Assists in and performs brewing operations, including cellar and laboratory processes, filtration, vessel CIP, and other beer production tasks.
    •Assists in and performs packaging operations, including keg and bottle filling, labeling, palletizing, wrapping, and warehousing.
    •Assists in and performs essential warehousing functions, including accepting and fulfilling shipments, and inventorying materials.
    •Stands, walks, crouches, and lifts regularly throughout duration of shift, including continual dragging, carrying, and manipulation of hoses, pumps, parts, buckets, carts, tools, and reservoirs.
    •Flexible schedule, on-call status required as needed.

    Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

    •None

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •Grain handling, brewhouse, fermentation, packaging, and warehousing equipment.
    •Utilities befitting a production brewery, including: electrical, air compression, steam, water supply and treatment, lift trucks, HVAC, compressed gasses (CO2, N2), glycol refrigerant and compression, and safety systems.
    •Cleaning agents, lubricating agents, and other potentially hazardous chemicals.

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Skills applicable to general maintenance functions. This skill set should include mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, pneumatics, pipefitting, and boiler/steam.
    •Working knowledge of brewing/process equipment including but not limited to: electrical controls, pumps and augers, motors, manual and pneumatic valves, filling equipment, and previously listed utilities.
    •An understanding of Lock Out / Tag Out and other important core safety protocols.
    •The ability and aptitude to learn, work with, and troubleshoot equipment and serve as an on-call primary resource for diagnosing and rectifying failures of critical systems.
    •Exemplary communication to team and brewery leadership, with professionalism and interpersonal skills to foster and secure working relationships with vendors and suppliers.

    AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD POSSESS:
    •Formal and documented education in maintenance, repair, engineering, or a related field in the form of a degree, certificate, or accreditation.
    •Significant employment experience working hands-on with aforementioned utilities and equipment.
    •Technical brewing and beverage production knowledge with an enthusiasm for craft beer and a commitment to beer quality.
    •Proficiency with spreadsheet software and familiarization with the importance and procedure of tracking inventories.
    •Exceptional attention to detail and a self-directed work ethic.
    •Flexibility in personal scheduling and wherewithal to fulfill occasional on-call requests.

    •Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms. Use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    •Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.

    •The work environment is generally that of a brewing, packaging, and shipping facility.
    •The employee regularly works with hazardous materials and utilities.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, flame, hot water, steam, broken glass, and CO2 sources.
    •The employee frequently works in a sanitary environment.
    •The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.

    Requisite personal protective equipment for all hazardous environments is supplied by the brewery.
