    LORD HOBO BREWING Co. Operations Manager and Brewmaster Job Description

    Start up Brewery located in Greater Boston is seeking an experienced Brewmaster and Operations manager. Ideal candidate will possess an interdisciplinary skillset including, but not limited to, project management, brewing and packaging production scheduling & operations, personnel management, recipe development, and proven expertise in a fast paced, rapid growth production environment. Candidate will work closely with CEO to develop and execute all phases of startup and commissioning of brewing and packaging facilities, equipment, and processes. Candidate will implement and document all requirements necessary to create and manage a safe, quality driven, and efficient production facility. Scope of work will also include representing brewery at industry events and consumer promotions.

    We have a 48,000 Sq Ft facility with a new 4 vessel 40 BBL Brewhouse. Lab. Coolship. Foedors. Some open fermentation. We are focusing on hop forward beers, saisons, and sours.

    This is not a traditional start up. We have a strong network of regional customers, along with several of our own bars, as well as a 250 person beer hall in house with 160 parking spots. This will be a production facility with a strong retail component.

    Responsibilities:

    · Develop equipment specifications with suppliers to meet process and quality requirements.
    · Define and document all process specifications required for commissioning all process equipment.
    · Responsible for negotiating bids and finalizing contracts from all equipment suppliers including brewing process equipment, utilities and packaging equipment.
    · Ensure that brewing process area is capable of meeting capacity of business plan within budget.
    · Determine best flow and placement of raw materials, process equipment and finished goods in facility to create a sustainable and efficient brewing and packaging process.
    · Work with CEO, suppliers, and architectural design team and define placement of brewing equipment, utilities, drains, plumbing, electrical, and packaging equipment.
    · Create and manage project timeline with CEO.
    · Manage process and construction project teams to meet project milestones according to schedule and projected timeline.
    · Work closely with CEO and construction manager and coordinate timing of equipment delivery and commissioning with timing of construction process.
    · Define and document all safety requirements and regulations according to OSHA standards for brewing, packaging, and warehouse process areas.
    · Define and document all process quality parameters and SOPs including cleaning/CIP, CCPs, KPIs, and all quality metrics needed to produce beer to internal and external specifications.
    · Work with CEO and brewing customers to design, define and execute new and existing brewing recipes, quality parameters, and processes.
    · Create job descriptions for all staff necessary to run a mid sized packaging brewery.
    · Hire all staff necessary for meeting production demands, including brewing, packaging, Maintenance, Warehouse, and QA staff.
    · Responsible for all areas of production from malt handling to warehouse.
    · Source all raw materials required for brewing and packaging operations and develop relationships with industry suppliers.



    Experience and education:

    Food Science, Fermentation Science, Chemical Engineering or equivalent degree preferred.

    At least 5 years of proven experience managing and operating all aspects of a mid-sized commercial production brewery, 5,000-40,000 bbls/yr+, including bottle and can packaging operations and all related quality assurance programs.
    Brewing education from leading brewing institution such as The Siebel Institute, UC Davis, Weihenstephan, VLB, Heriot-Watt, Doeman’s, etc., required.
    Proven track record and experience in project management, including startup and commissioning of brewing, packaging and/or food & beverage production faculties.
    Proven track record and experience leading a team of brewing and facility contractors for build out of a new production brewery.

The interview process will be extensive and involve brewing as well as recipe design.

    Timeframe:

    We have access to the building now. All the equipment has been ordered and “should” be delivered by December 1. So we are few months away from needing you full time. Which will give you some time to get your affairs in order in the event you are leaving another job and/or moving to the Boston area.
