    REPORTS TO: Assistant Packaging Manager
    POSITION TYPE: Full Time, Hourly Employee
    SHIFT: Second
    EXTERNAL POSTING DATES: 06/10/2014-06/29/2014

    POSITION SUMMARY: Supervises and assists in training new and existing packagers. Engages in the packaging of beer and ensures that the final product including the beer and all necessary packaging materials are of the highest quality.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other miscellaneous duties may also be assigned.
    •Adheres to and advances the “Safety Always” culture of Bell’s Brewery, Inc., and is accountable for the safety of their crew.
    •Alerts the Packaging Supervisor or other management personnel to potential quality concerns.
    •Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the department and the company.
    •Discusses production concerns with Line Leaders on the previous and following shifts as well as other packaging lines.
    •Leads meetings of Packaging Operators and Maintenance Staff.
    •Makes themselves available to communicate with other departments including Scheduling, Cellar, Lab and Shipping/Sales.
    •Double checks all volumes, batch numbers, schedule concerns and any other info related to the days production.
    •Ensures that the packaging staff follows sanitary procedures and policies set by the Packaging Supervisor and Quality Control Manager.
    •Ensures that the packaging staff is in attendance and ready to begin the day’s work.
    •Monitors packaging staff attendance records and reports any problems to the Assistant Packaging Manager and the Human Resources Dept.
    •Tracks and records packaging staff performance through documentation and reports any problems to the Assistant Packaging Manager and the Human Resources Dept.
    •Provides periodic performance reviews to packaging staff.
    •Provides coaching to elevate the performance of the operators on their shift.
    •Coordinates with Assistant Packaging Manager to effect disciplinary measures when necessary.
    •Assists in the packaging of beer.
    •Assigns duties to the Packaging Operators as needed.
    •Works at and monitors all stations along the packaging line, including participating in the rotating production schedule.
    •Responsible for making sure that the packaging logs have been filled out correctly at the end of each packaging run and have been turned over to the Shipping Dept.
    •Assists in general cleaning of the work area.
    •Takes care of general maintenance on the packaging machinery. This includes inspection of any broken or worn parts and or systems, power washing the machines, greasing machine parts, the changing of oil as needed, etc.
    •Works with the Packaging Supervisor and the Maintenance Scheduler to see that all Preventative Maintenance functions and documentation of said tasks are completed in a timely manner.
    •Assists in maintaining inventory of packaging materials and may order materials as needed.

    OTHER DUTIES:
    •Uses forklift to move pallets, supplies, finished product, etc.
    •May use the company van for any deliveries and or pickups.
    •Any other brewery related issues that may require assistance.
    •May assist with cellar department issues if needed.
    •May unload any trucking deliveries.
    •Assists bottling, keg and canning shifts.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    •Supervises Packaging Operators

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

    MATERIALS/MACHINES/EQUIPMENT USED:
    •Automated packaging equipment
    •Forklift trucks
    •A variety of hand and power tools
    •Cleaning agents and other hazardous chemicals
    •Desktop computer
    •Including a basic understanding of Word, Excel and Outlook
    •Hand Held Bar Code Scanner
    •Touch screen machine controls
    •Compressed air or other gasses, including C02
    •Company Vehicle

    IMPORTANT SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    •Experience in a production/packaging environment
    •An understanding of lock-out/tag-out and other core safety issues.
    •Interpersonal skills sufficient to be comfortable working in a team environment with a great deal of interdepartmental coordination.
    •The ability and aptitude to work with and troubleshoot equipment.
    •The ability to operate a forklift.

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL POSSESS:
    •A Minimum of 2 years experience as a machine operator.
    •Previous Management/Leadership experience.
    •Excellent communication skills.
    •A high level of professionalism.
    •Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
    •Good mechanical skills.
    •Ability to troubleshoot problems.
    •Ability to lead and motivate a crew of Packaging Operators to accomplish any task however undesirable that may be.
    •Ability to work independently as well as with the packaging team.
    •Ability to identify tasks that need to be completed. Ability to assign and delegate those tasks to the packaging crew.
    •A demonstrable interest in Craft Beer that includes a working knowledge of the brewing process.
    •Working knowledge of the cellar process.
    •Understanding the role of sanitation in beer making.
    •Ability to safely handle cleaning and sanitizing agents.
    •Ability to work with packaging and transfer equipment.
    •Ability to operate a forklift.
    •Ability to work in a shared office environment and be respectful of others
    •Willingness to make difficult or unpopular decisions when necessary

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
    •The work environment is that of a brewing and packaging facility
    •The employee frequently must work in a sterile environment.
    •The noise level in the packaging facilities is frequently loud (80+ dB)
    •The employee regularly works around high voltage, hot water, steam and flame
    •The employee regularly works with pressurized vessels
    •The employee comes in contact with and has to handle broken glass.
    •The employee handles hazardous materials.
    •The employee works near moving mechanical parts.
    •The employee works on wet floors and with wet equipment.
    •The employee works in a shared office environment
