Beer Microbiology and Sensory Lab Technician
Reports to: Quality Manger
Work Areas: Lab, Brew House, Cellar, Filtration, Packaging
Assists: Brewery Management Team and Executive Management Team
Requirements:
Four year college science degree or occupational lab experience, computer proficiency including Microsoft Excel, demonstrated reading, writing and math skills, demonstrated communication skills, at least 21 years of age
Desirable Qualities:
Passion for beer and the brewing industry, desire to make a career in this industry, enjoys physical work, thrives in a fast paced environment, professional, attention to detail, good communication, good record keeping, pride of work, thirst for knowledge, and integrity.
Working Conditions:
The Lab Technician will be required to work on their feet for over eight hours at a time, occasionally lift up to 55 lbs, work in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time, in loud production environments, with chemicals of varying composition, work from heights, work in damp and wet areas and work in confined spaces.
Major Duties:
1. Maintenance of the micro lab and all equipment used to perform the following duties
2. Managing inventory of all lab supplies necessary to perform the following duties
3. Aseptic sampling of fermenter tank, bright tank, water and air samples.
4. Media production including making agar and aseptically adding the agar to petri dishes
5. Aseptic technique to properly process samples onto the required media.
6. Plate reading using standard tests and microscopy
7. Reporting any micro exceptions during a daily meeting
8. Support with sensory tests and other sensory activities
9. Management of all data collected
Minor Duties:
1. Attendance of scheduled and impromptu meetings
2. Help team with cleaning and general lab upkeep
3. Possibility of cross training
4. Possibility of weekend work
5. Possibility of educational work
6. Perform various audits of processes that impact beer quality
7. Any additional special testing requested by management
