    Shmaltz Brewing Company seeks a talented production guru to join our expanding team. Shmaltz is an award-winning craft brewing company founded in San Francisco in 1996 and reborn in 2013 in Upstate, NY with a new 50-barrel, 20,000 square foot brewery and 1,700 square foot tasting room. Our team is committed to hand crafting our line of He’brew Beers and we distribute our core and seasonal beers to over 40 distributors in 37 states. We also brew high quality beer on contract for other brewers. Our operation is growing quickly and we are in the process of expanding our brewing capacity right now from 20,000 barrels to nearly 40,000.

    Our ideal candidate must possess great leadership and problem-solving skills, have attention to detail and be committed to producing high quality product in a safe and supportive work environment. The responsibilities for this position will include managing our brewing and packaging staff, which include a team of 4 full-time brewers, 1 lab technician and 1 packaging supervisor and various full and part-time packaging staff. You will also oversee the operation of our 50 bbl brewhouse, tank cleaning and sanitizing, yeast management, beer transfer, carbonation, filtration, chill-proofing, dry-hopping, cleaning and packaging.

    Qualifications:
    • B.S./M.S. in Brewing Science, Fermentation Science, Food Science and Technology or related field
    • or B.S./MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology/Microbiology or similar AND brewing specific diploma/certification.
    • A minimum of 5 years of production management experience or (preferably) experience managing a brewery operation of 20,000 bbls per year or more. Related experience could also include food/beverage or other manufacturing with focus on quality processes and SOPs.
    • Extensive supervisory experience is required.
    • Familiarity with brewery or related manufacturing QA/QC programs.
    • Brewing and general cellar experience preferred with experience operating a DE filter.
    • Knowledge of CIP systems, brewery cleaning and sanitation.
    • Knowledge of chemical safety.
    • Computer literacy and proficiency with Excel and Word.

    Responsibilities:
    • Manage our brewing and packaging team. Review and monitor data to ensure adherence to brew schedule, compliance to company quality standard and performance. Provides, alerts and makes recommendations to Brewmaster, brewing staff and packaging team.
    • Manage contract brewing relationship for several well established regional and national brewing clients.
    • Manage production and labor scheduling.
    • Help shape our develop laboratory program and work with our lab personnel.
    • Manage key vendor relationships.
    • Take part in brewery infrastructure projects.
    • Management of multiple yeast strains in the brewery.
    • Help establish and direct brewery sensory panels.
    • Perform brewery and process audits for Shmaltz brands to ensure consistency, repeatability, and sensory specs. Audit to include process, formulation, and sanitation practices.
    • Coordinate brewing and quality and operations efforts to ensure timely procurement and management of raw materials for year-round beers, seasonal and specialty products.
    • Assist in training and coaching of brewing staff.
    • Provide timely updates of brewing and packaging schedule, process and formulation changes, materials utilization, etc
    • Schedule and facilitate regular meetings with production staff.

    • Salary based on experience, with bonus potential.
