Phillips Brewing Company is currently hiring for a Brewmaster position in Victoria, BC Canada. The successful applicant will be responsible for day to day operational oversight of our brewhouse, maltings, distillery, cellar/filtration, as well as quality aspects of the packaging department. A background in creative brewing, recipe design and optimization, establishing SOPs and training programs, as well as a formal brewing education will be strong assets for the successful candidate.
Essential Duties
• Leading and training an exceptional production team in a fast paced production environment.
• Responsible for ensuring exceptional quality and flavour in all products produced in the facility
• Continued development of SOPs to ensure best practices throughout the manufacturing environment
• Participation in development and optimization of recipes
• Ensuring safety of employees while in the workplace, and compliance with WCB (workers compensation board) requirements
• Working to ensure that all activities in the brewery are performed in an environmentally responsible manner.
• Oversight of all ingredients coming into the facility
• Ensuring smooth coordination of the brewhouse, maltings, and distillery, as well as cellaring and packaging activities.
• Analysis of brewhouse and cellar activities, optimization and planning.
Essential Skills and background
• A degree in fermentation sciences or related fields
• Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills
• Strong organizational skills and an ability to look for efficient approaches to all production related activities
• Advanced sensory analysis abilities
• Computer proficiency, an understanding of industrial automation an asset
• Experience with brewery quality control systems
• Minimum 5 years experience in a 15k BBL or larger brewery
• Proven success in leading a team within a production brewery.
• Recipe development and optimization
• Experience with malting an asset
• Experience with distillation an asset
