  • Who's the tougher customer?

Who do you guys think is the tougher sell, retailer or consumer? Do you find yourself struggling more to get your product onto the shelf of retailers or to get them into the fridge of consumers?

Thats a tough question..If you cant get your beer in to the retailers door its impossible to have a customer pick it up. So you need one to reach the other.

It also largely depends on market conditions and a number of other factors. If you're in an area where craft is popular you'll have a much easier time getting it in the door, but an even harder time getting it in the cooler, pricing and merchandising it appropriately, and then having it stay the same until the next time you come to check on it. Retailers will say yes to any new craft beer it seems, but getting it to sell through the account is a whole other story.

Also, if you're looking to start making a name for yourself, stick with draft. While it some instances it is tougher to get a draft handle you'll have a much larger sampling audience to gauge feedback. You'll know rather quickly whether or not the beer is selling and be able to ask questions to the bartender or manager and make changes in the future.
