  • Stupid question: Transferring warm beer.

Probably a really stupid question, but always felt it was better to ask something stupid than DO something stupid!

Brewed our first ever double IPA and the dry-hop is just about finished up. We've been waiting on state label approval and the beer has actually had time to clear up pretty nicely despite sitting at 72F. It is a single batch and our double-sized unis don't crash well, so I was thinking why not just transfer it to the brite warm and crash it there?

And it's probably negligible, but wouldn't moving warm beer slightly reduce DO pick-up?

You are correct in the assessment that moving warm beer will result in lower DO pick up because as we know, gases dissolve more easily in cold fluids. We normally purge our brite tank with co2 before transfer to remove the oxygen before transfer. We also gently push the beer with Co2 instead of using a pump.

The ttb is another issue. Cheers.
