Trumer Brauerei in Berkeley is seeking a full time laboratory assistant. Assistant will report to and work with the QA Manager in daily lab functions at the brewery. Duties will include but not be limited to the following:
• Prepare media to recipe and pour sterile petri dishes for micro work;
• Collect tank and package samples for micro and analytical testing;
• Sterile plating of samples on appropriate media;
• Yeast cell counting and viability testing;
• Operate numerous lab instruments and devices including density meter, microscope, spectrophotometer, pH meter, dissolved O2 meter, gas chromatograph, micro incubators, autoclave, and centrifuge;
• Collect samples and for daily tastings; and
• Detailed upkeep of lab records.
A successful candidate will have either a BA or BS degree with some coursework in microbiology and chemistry or equivalent work experience. Attention to detail, organized and orderly execution of tasks, and the ability to adhere to methods and protocols will be essential traits for this position.
This is a good entry level positon in production brewing and familiarity with the brewing process would be very helpful but is not necessary. The position will provide exposure to many facets of production brewing but we are looking for a lab assistant and not a brewer.
Work hours will generally be Monday through Friday with occasional weekend and evening work.
