  • Start up costs.

Looking for some help with determining our start up costs. Any advice or tips are welcomed.

Initially we were planning on a smaller brew house (7bbl electric) but just about everyone we've spoke to in the industry has said there is almost no point starting at that size and at the very least we should be looking at a 10bbl system that we can grow into.

We've got a pile of different quotes pulled together, and we have a general understanding of the gear required; but the set up costs seem too good to be true.

Is there anyone here that would be willing to give an itemized list of every major expense they've incurred before they were able to put down their first batch? maybe even a ballpark? Or potentially a link to a previous thread?

We're not so naive that we don't understand that there will definitely be a pile of unexpected costs, we're just trying to figure out how bad it could get. We're on the verge of incorporation, and our investor is looking for some serious #'s

    Understandably.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.
Also: This forum is easily one of the most informative brewing related sites I've seen, kudos to all of you who've built the community.

depending on your site, from what ive learned, its not unusual to spend say 40-60% of the value of your brewing equipment for all the service related stuff such as boilers / water storage, treatment / power connections / waste treatment / finished goods area etc. Note, this does not include packaging gear which varies greatly depending how far you want to go with that...eg if your 10BBL is $250K, i dont think it would be too unusual to spend another $100K on infrastructure... + packaging....
