Potosi Brewery, home of the National Brewery Museum, is undergoing an expansion and is looking for a QA Laboratory Technician.
Position: Quality Lab Technician
Reports to: Director of Brewing Operations
Primary Responsibilities:
• Maintain calibration records and laboratory equipment including ordering lab materials.
• Run analytical tests on beer at all phases of production such as but not limited to dissolved oxygen, CO2 vols, Plato, bottle fill levels, and IBU testing.
• Set up and run taste/sensory panel according to Potosi Brewery’s quality assurance program.
• Conduct microbiological analysis of beer and periodic microbiological testing for cleanliness of production areas.
• Perform yeast viability tests and test yeast pitching rate on fermenters.
• Monitor temperatures of fermentation and beer conditioning tanks.
• Participation and development of Standard Operating Procedures, product spec sheets, and other controlled documents.
• Maintain sample retention inventory.
Secondary Responsibilities:
• Transfer and movement of both beer and yeast.
• Cellar work including CIP and sanitation on brewery tanks and equipment.
• Represent Potosi Brewing Company at Brew Festivals and other promotional events.
• Assist with packaging operations when required.
• Assist with shipping and receiving when required.
• Nights and weekends occasionally required.
• Other duties as assigned by Director of Brewing Operations.
The ideal candidate should possess:
• Excellent record-keeping and ability to design spreadsheets for reporting and creating graphs, tables, etc.
• 2+ years of lab experience in a commercial production brewery or other food/beverage production facility, or
• 2 or 4 year degree in food science, biology, chemistry, or equivalent lab science coursework.
• Basic understanding of laboratory and quality assurance practices as relates to food/beverage production.
• Good communication skills and organizational skills.
