JOB TITLE: Lab/Cellar Technician
LOCATION: Branford , CT
REPORTS TO: Brewmaster
POSITION TYPE: Hourly
HOURS: 40 hours per week. Occasional nights and weekends.
APPROXIMATE START DATE: Mid to Late January 2015
Stony Creek Brewery is building a 30,000 square feet brewery and tasting room on the banks of the Branford River in Shoreline Branford, CT. Our facility will feature a 30 bbl JVNW Brewery, a Kosme/Krones Bottling line, a Wild Goose Canning Line and more. Attached will be a 2,500 square foot tasting pub and second floor celebration room.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Lab/Cellar Technician will be responsible for the operation of our QA Lab (and all associated duties) as well as basic Cellar duties. A love of craft beer is a priority. The ability to work in a team, a must.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lab duties will primarily include but not be limited to.
• Confirm and track beer volumes in bottles and cans.
• Package beer air and CO2 volume
• Wort and Bright Beer color.
• IBU testing
• Yeast cell counts with a hemacytometer.
• Yeast viability with methylene blue.
• Plating out beer and water samples. Candidate should be proficient in aseptic plating techniques.
• Clean, sanitize, and purge tanks and process lines/hoses with strict adherence to C.I.P. and process S.O.P.’s
• Yeast management, including; yeast dumps, harvesting, pitching, cell counts, viability counts.
• Carbonation monitoring
• Fermentation monitoring, including; gravity checks, tank pressurization, and temperature adjustments
• Ensures work area is clean and well organized
• Ensures tank exteriors and process piping are cleaned regularly
QUALIFICATIONS
• To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Experience working in a QA/QC Lab preferred.
• Degree in microbiology is preferred.
• Attention to detail is a must
• Ability to multi task.
• Knowledge of basic Lab Skills and procedures
• Genuine enthusiasm for craft beer
