Brewmaster – Cincinnati, Ohio
The Christian Moerlein Brewing Co. of Cincinnati, Ohio is seeking a Brewmaster to lead the effort in brewing our award winning beers and to take us to the next level. You will be the overall manager of brewery operation, and will have complete responsibility for all aspects.*We currently operate a moderate size production brewery in the heart of Cincinnati’s historic Brewery District and are beginning the process of a significant expansion. We also are responsible for an associated high profile successful brewpub nearby located next to the Cincinnati Reds Great American Ballpark on the banks of the Ohio River. We are looking for the right person who has the experience and skillset to lead our brewing operations in producing a higher volume of quality beer in a safe, efficient manner and who has the drive to engage effectively with both our own great brewers and the beer loving public. We’re looking for a confident, awesome person who clicks with the brew team, industry leaders, and the CEO. This position will provide the right candidate an immense amount of creative freedom, responsibility, and the rewarding opportunity to build a regional brand.
Experience and Success Factors
Applicants must have the following experience and attributes to be successful in this position:
• Can demonstrate a successful track record working as a brewer in a larger brewpub or production brewery
• Prefer five years’ experience. Masters Degree and advanced course work in Brewing Science a plus
• Proven ability in recipe design and execution
• Honesty, sincerity, and a great work ethic
• Understanding of quality control concepts, procedures and committed to cleanliness and implementing SOPs to ensure quality and consistency
• Has a level of engineering/mechanical experience commensurate with the position that can help expand our production equipment as we grow
• Good communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to interact with sales and marketing as well as the public
• A positive, energetic leader who can rally the brew team; leadership skills are a must
• Maintains a consistent leadership level of hands on brewing experience with the brewing team
• Have an unsurpassed passion for quality beer and quality workmanship and ensure the entire team has a commitment to safety and the same
• Leads the Quality Assurance program to maintain, develop and make improvements in process and overall beer quality along with proactively manages yeast health and beer fermentation
• Organized and able to prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and goals
• Provide annual budget information
• Develops relationships with Materials suppliers and negotiates contracts
• Manages raw materials inventories
• Works with Maintenance Manager to schedule and Coordinate vendors for brewery and related equipment repairs or upgrades
• Assists in planning and selecting equipment purchases
• Forecasting production and ingredient ordering and is adept at spreadsheets and ideally Orchestratedbeer or similar
• Analyzes cost control and reports on all brewing operations and efficiencies
• Coordinate and attend outside events as needed
• Manage and train brewery staff in a way to foster continual development
• Implement annual reviews of staff
• Enforce company policies and procedures
• Writes and communicates a shift schedule for all brewing and cellar staff
