  • Line chiller location question

    Hey refrigeration wizards,

We are looking to expand our draft offerings and add some keg lines from a walk-in cooler that is about sixty feet from the taps. We will install a new glycol unit on the new trunk line.

My question has to do with siting the new chiller and some engineering/efficiency questions:

The walk-in is situated in a basement. The condenser for the walk-in is in the basement also and it gets warm down there, especially in the summer. Would it be more efficient to place the new chiller inside the walk-in and let the large (rather oversized) reefer remove the heat generated by the line chiller, or should we put it in the warm basement and lose some efficiency there? Does it matter, or does the math come out the same?

    Cheers.
