    About Bottle Logic Brewing
    Bottle Logic Brewing is Orange County's most exciting new craft brewery, with a retro-future theme and a constant rotating supply of new beers on tap. We have a 15 BBL brewhouse with a current annual production capacity of 3,500 BBLs. Our dark lager, Lagerithm, won a gold medal at GABF 2014. Our barrel program is growing rapidly, and we are looking to hire a Director of Brewing Operations with significant management experience and a great history of barrel aging and sour beer production. Our goal is to produce Southern California's most inventive beer using a variety of unique ingredients, processes, and techniques.

    Director of Brewing Operations
    We are looking for someone who is comfortable with all aspects of the brewing process and currently successfully manages a team of brewers. Our right candidate has significant experience with barrel aging and sour beer production. The person we are looking for is a creative genius with brews, and has solid connections in the brewing industry.

    This position includes responsibility for overseeing all brewing operations, quality control, packaging, safety and compliance, ordering, and inventory. You will oversee a staff of 7-10 brewers, packaging technicians, and cellarpersons.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage the operations of all aspects of the brewing facility – brewery, cellar, packaging, yeast, and grain handling.
    • Manage a team of brewers, packaging technicians, and cellarpersons to ensure proper quality of beer production.
    • Oversee all aspects of the barrel aging of beers, including sour beer production.
    • Ensure a safe and regulatory compliant work environment.
    • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment, tanks and work areas.
    • Maintain brew sheets, inventory and governmental compliance paperwork.
    • Participate in beer festivals and events.
    • Evaluate and monitor beer and raw materials.
    • Ensure compliance with safety procedures.
    • Oversee proper QA/QC protocols.
    • Oversee and adhere to standard operating and safety procedures in wort production, vessel cleaning and sanitation, yeast handling, fermentation and maturation, sample collecting and filtration operations.
    • Develop innovative beer recipes.
    • Knowledge of all tasks involved in the packaging process, including washing and filling kegs.
    • Troubleshoot and report all mechanical issues.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Essential Job Functions
    • Must be in good physical condition and able to maneuver in confined spaces.
    • Ability to sit/stand/bend/walk and maintain manual dexterity for duration of work period.
    • Must be able & willing to work morning, midday, overnight and/or weekend shifts.
    • Able to lift 55 lbs. and move at least 165 lbs., and work in extreme hot and cold environments.
    • Extremely high level of attention to detail.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong overall understanding of safety procedures, regulations and requirements.
    • Thorough understanding of all aspects of beer production, including grain handling, yeast management, filtration, packaging and QA/QC.
    • Passionate about design, production and sale of amazing beers.
    • Possess strong general beer knowledge and a good sense of smell, distinguishing flavors and colors in beer.
    • Possess technical/mechanical expertise and have the ability to troubleshoot and fix brewing and bottling equipment.
    • Be able to collaborate with the team and have a strong desire to create interesting beer.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely with respect to all Bottle Logic’s personnel at all levels, in addition to customers and suppliers.

    Education/Experience
    • Extensive experience and understanding of the brewing process, sanitation, yeast health and fermentation, beer transfer and clarification and brewery quality control procedures.
    • Barrel aging experience is required, with sour beer production experience strongly preferred.
    • A minimum of 5 years of professional brewing experience.
    • National awards, medals, or other recognition for your beers is strongly preferred.
    • Recognized brewing qualifications, certifications or other education required, although experience will substitute for formal degrees or certifications in brewing science.
