View Full Version : Worth selling other beers?

I'm going to be opening a nanobrewery soon that will only be selling on site initially. I know I make some good beers, but I'm debating whether or not it is worth selling some high quality outside beers as well. On one hand it may increase walk ins, but on the other the costs and margins are not as good as just selling my own beers. Anyone have experience with this that could offer some advice? Will selling outside beers drive up traffic enough to make it worth while?

There is a nano in our town that does this. I think at first there plan was only 1-3 taps out of the 10 would be "others". Quickly after opening though they were running out of their own beer quicker then they could brew it, so it went up to about half the taps were "others" until they could get their feet under them. Its a good option to have, if there is a style people like but maybe you don't want to brew it, you could have it on tap still.

Thanks, those are definitely some good points. I think I will reserve some taps for outside beers.

I would only consider it if you're brewing at 100% capacity and still can't keep up with the demand. Otherwise you're just shooting yourself in the foot selling the lower-margin products.
