    PURCHASING SPECIALIST

    The Purchasing Specialist will take ownership of Flying Dog’s purchasing function to achieve operational objectives. With a strong background in purchasing and supply chain management, the candidate will take a proactive approach in reviewing current systems and procedures, making recommendations and implementing changes. The role is key to leading Flying Dog forward, through building supplier relationships and ensuring the best quality materials are sourced at the best cost.

    The Purchasing Specialist will report to the VP of Finance and will support all departments in their purchasing needs. In addition to ensuring that all materials match production requirements in a timely fashion, the role will support special projects and function at a strategic level to help achieve goals in new product development.

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

    Production Operations
    •Managing and controlling all the company’s external suppliers with particular emphasis on the purchase of materials and parts for production.
    •Ensure materials and parts are bought at the most competitive price and delivered on time for production.
    •Establish strategic relationships with key suppliers who are aligned to the company’s needs.
    •Maintains high level of knowledge about raw materials and market conditions to support strategic sourcing decisions.
    •Maintains stringent material control to assure company targets are met. This includes quality, cost, usage, inventory levels, etc.
    •Work with vendors and department managers to correct any manufacturing or quality concerns.
    •Track delivery on all orders, reconcile all receiving, and work closely with Accounts Payable.
    •Foster close working relationships across all departments; sales and marketing, brewing, packaging, lab, and maintenance.

    Business Development
    •Helps to define, establish and improve purchasing policy and procedures.
    •Identify new suppliers, negotiate terms and supply agreements where appropriate, including discount structures and volume rebates.
    •Continually carry out a review of the purchasing function and its methodology to identify and implement improvements.
    •Work across marketing and production departments for new product development

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
    •Degree or equivalent experience in a manufacturing business environment
    •3 years previous experience in a purchasing role preferred
    •5 years progressive work experience in a business environment preferred
    •High competency level in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, as a minimum)
    •Proven track record of controlling quality and reducing costs across a robust supplier base.
    •Fully familiar with modern procurement and purchasing techniques.
    •Experience working with Great Plains preferred. Experience of working with MRP systems is essential.
    •Ability to clearly communicate and present information at internal meetings
    •Experience coordinating between internal quality assurance personnel and supplier quality departments
