Logan Square, Chicago Brewpub to be seeks brewer

From the same folks behind Owen & Engine and Fat Willy's, our Logan Square brewpub to be, in Chicago, Illinois, is seeking and experienced brewer to head our brewing operations. The Head brewer will be responsible for grain to glass brewery operations, restaurant staff training, special events, year round & seasonal recipe development, inventory management and all necessary tax related paperwork necessary for filing.
We're seeking someone with passion, professionalism, and self-motivation, as well as the creativity to push boundaries with unusual ingredients to tie the beer in to our Asian-inspired menu. We are a launch date by the end of the year, Bixi Brewing (holding name, actual name TBA) will be a draft-focused, dual level brew pub drawing from East Asian, and Southeast Asian cuisines for flavor inspiration. Our goal is to provide great tasting, well made craft beer with a focus on ales with unique infusions, sometimes working with local tea merchants for sourcing. We aim to cover a gamut of style while always keeping an eye towards pairing with and inspiration with cuisine.
We need the candidate to be comfortable with setting up a brewhouse, and aiding in the order and specification of the brewing equipment, aiming for a 15bbl system with 8 serving brites.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• 5 years commercial brewing experience with 2-3 years Head Brewer
• Experience managing all federal & state regulatory requirements including paperwork filings. A clear understand of needs is required.
• Brewing experience in a brewpub environment
• Experience leading a brewery from grain to glass, up to and including draft equipment/service management.
• Experience leading all brewing operations, including:
Recipe development
Purchasing & Inventory
Yeast propagation
Sanitation & Maintenance
• Common sense, ability to make sound decisions.
• Self-motivated, self-starter
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES WILL INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Organizing and attending off and on site events
• Promotional calendar coordinated with beer releases
• Representing Bixi in all necessary Fests & events
• Beer education & training for our staff and our customers, working with our Cicerone
• Cleaning all beer lines
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS:
• Flexible schedule with the ability to work off hours, evening, and weekends as required
• Critical and analytical thinking skills and the ability to make decisions based on brewing knowledge, and experience. Sound decision maker.
• Knowledge of brewing industry standards and trends
• Excitement and passion for brewing and craft beer as well as creativity
• Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to work without supervision
• Close attention to details
• Team player a must
• Willingness to assist with tasks outside key responsibilities
• Communicate efficiently with team and customers
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Lift 55 lbs and move 165 lbs
• Stand for 8-10 hours per day
• Ability to work safely with chemicals
• Work in a non-temperature controlled environment, handling of hazardous materials
