    About the Opportunity
    We are currently looking for an Assistant Cider Maker. This position will be responsible for adhering to Boston Beer Company and Angry Orchard Cider Company safety and sanitation standards while producing the highest quality cider in accordance with the requirements at our planned cidery in Walden, NY. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, ensuring safe and sanitary working conditions at all times, daily execution of all Cider Making functions, monitoring Cider Making quality both operationally and analytically, collaborating on Cider Making innovation efforts and consistently representing Boston Beer Company and Angry Orchard vision, mission and culture; both internally and externally.

    Ingredients To Be An Assistant Cider Maker:
    • Responsible for daily management and execution of the Cider Making process in accordance with Boston Beer and Angry Orchard Safety, Sanitation and Quality standards.
    • Must become competent in all Cider Making functions related to raw materials, apple processing, fermentation, aging, cold processing, packaging and utilities. This includes performing, recording and interpreting standard Cider quality analysis
    • Basic utility and process equipment troubleshooting
    • Consistently supports Boston Beer Company and Angry Orchard culture development; both internally and externally. Internally includes communication and supporting training efforts. Externally includes public interaction via conducting cidery tours, tastings, etc.
    • Manage sanitation within any assigned area(s) of responsibility to assure compliance with company standards and GMP goals. This includes proper sanitation of all processing equipment and general cleanliness of all process and storage areas suitable for a tour environment and to maintain a micro clean environment.
    • Participate in daily taste panel to evaluate adherence to quality and flavor targets.
    • Develop and implement technical Standard Operating Procedures for process steps as directed by Head Cider Maker.
    • Work closely with Maintenance & Facilities staff, or approved 3rd party contractors, to ensure safe and effective operation of all process equipment, utilities, and the facility in general.
    • Safely operate forklifts as required.
    • Complete other related duties and tasks as assigned. This may include support of barrel aging programs, Cider House Collection, knowledge of draft dispense systems, and technical and operational support of our growler program, etc.
    • Ensure cidery presents as an interesting educational tour and support activities such as apple pressing during key tour periods
    • Support tour center activities to promote attendance through events, special brews etc. Strong PC skills – developing tools to enable better data tracking and analysis. (Strong excel skills are a must, LIMS and Wonderware experience a plus)
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
    • Proven ability to prioritize and make knowledgeable decisions in a fast-paced, team-focused, dynamic organization environment.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal, and teambuilding skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to be successful in a collaborative team environment.
    • Proven analytical, problem-solving, project and time management skills.
    • Self-starter, proactive - able to work independently and shows initiative to make things happen and improve results.
    • Highly effective multi-tasker; resourceful with a 'get-it-done, can-do' attitude. Must be able to function at a high level in a dynamic environment.
    • Able to impact and effect positive change with a flexible, open-minded, positive approach.
    • High attention to detail.
    • Honest and trustworthy.
    • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, Process Improvement and Process Control.
    • Competent in using Microsoft Office, including MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
    • Support market and brand request: festivals, cider dinners, wholesaler trainings, orchard events, tours and tastings.

    To Be Mixed With:

    • Minimum of a formal education in Viticulture/Enology, Brewing, Fermentation Science, or related degree (Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Mechanical Engineering, etc.)
    • Required: 1-2 years of commercial experience in cider production, winemaking or brewing with a strong passion for cider
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs., full range of motion and ability to be on your feet and in motion for a majority of the day.
    • Production Cidery manufacturing environment partially overlapped with a high volume public tour route. Some travel may be required in support of ingredients selection and purchasing and for media, PR, and BBC/AO training activities.
