    General Manager

    Internationally renowned Mikkeller Brewing Company from Denmark will soon be coming to San Diego, California and joining AleSmith Brewing Company in a creative partnership! Mikkel Borg Bjergsø exports his micro brewed beer to 40 different countries and is internationally acclaimed as one of the most innovative and cutting edge brewers in the world.

    We are seeking a General Manager, who will report to the COO, to oversee production, sales and marketing, as well as the tasting room. This will be a 8,000-10,000 bbl brewery for the first year with plans of expanding in the following years.


    Summary: Under general direction from the COO, the General Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Brewery/Packaging Operations, Sales & Marketing, and the Tasting Room. The incumbent will be expected to be a visionary and collaborate with the COO on business and branding strategies. Will work closely with management and Human Resources to create new procedures and policies for the Company. Responsible for building, guiding, and motivating a strong team that is enthusiastic about achieving individual and company goals.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide leadership and guidance to all production, sales and marketing, and tasting room staff and monitor daily operations.
    • Create an environment for the team that drives employee satisfaction and safety.
    • Collaborate with COO on strategic planning/forecasting of annual brewing production/packaging schedule.
    • Responsible for meeting Company budget and revenue goals.
    • Responsible for quality assurance of the beer, raw materials, and processes.
    • Also responsible for regulatory affairs, quality of retail products, and customer service.
    • Oversee the ordering of all raw materials/inventory needed for brewing/packaging.
    • Process legislative approval documents for labels and follow through to obtain label approval.
    • Establish pricing on product and merchandise based on research and ROI.
    • Create and execute business plans to include dealer incentives, to meet annual targets and drive accountability with distributors and key accounts.
    • Strategize on business / marketing tactics to increase revenues in the tasting room.
    • Establish and maintain Company website and online retail store.
    • Collaborate with Human Resources on initiatives for maintaining positive morale and a high level of employee engagement.
    • Hire and develop new team members, ensure a positive onboarding experience, and develop training plan for new hires in coordination with Human Resources.
    • Conduct formal annual performance reviews to review goals and performance.
    • Provide weekly reporting on key metrics to COO.

    Requirements:

    • 7+ years experience within the brewing industry with a minimum of 5 years managing personnel.
    • Business or related degree strongly preferred.
    • Experience in working with and understanding P&L statements.
    • Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and influence others as well as develop them and hold them accountable.
    • Superior customer service orientation.
    • Strong knowledge of brewing operations, sales and marketing, hospitality management, the brewing industry, and legislation.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with staff, customers, and vendors.
    • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills in order to engage and influence an audience to include audiences for television and radio.
    • Must be available to work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays for special work related events such as beer dinners.
