    Sierra Nevada Brewers are responsible for the production of our award-winning beers and the operation of our state-of-the-art Brewery. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of raw materials handling, brewhouse operations, cellar management, and filtration procedures. Candidates must share Sierra Nevada’s commitments to quality, brewery sanitation, best practices, safety, and continuous improvement. The BREWER TECHNICIAN will potentially work in all areas of the Brewing Department (Brewing, Cellar & Filtration) and will be placed on all shifts, including the graveyard shift.

    DUTIES
    •Shift brewing
    •Monitoring progress and manipulation of fermentations
    •Removing spent yeast from fermenters
    •Harvesting yeast
    •Clarification of beer
    •CIP of tanks, process lines, fermenters, centrifuges, filters and yeast brinks including assembly and disassembly of process lines and loops
    •Operate both manual and computer automated equipment while maintaining quality standards and specifications set by SNBC
    •Basic maintenance of process equipment and troubleshooting
    •Perform light duty mechanical adjustments; manually or with small hand tools
    •Mix and use chemicals safely – using the appropriate chemical for the task, use cleaning equipment safely, carry buckets with chemicals – using proper PPE for the job being performed
    •Operate a forklift and obtain a valid forklift license if requested

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    •Understanding of Brewing, Cellaring, and Filtration processes
    •Understanding of COP, CIP, sanitation and sterilization techniques
    •Understanding of specific beer process terminologies
    •The skill to quickly assess the status of operations and troubleshoot processes is strongly desired
    •A demonstrated ability to work with automated processes interface, as well as manual brewery operations is strongly desired
    •A demonstrated ability to multitask and strong attention to detail is essential
    •A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate in a cross-functional, cross-departmental TEAM environment
    •A demonstrated ability to work unsupervised and make critical decisions
    •Ability to accurately follow SOPs

    Experience and Education
    •A diploma or certificate in brewing or fermentation science or related field from an accredited institution, or a minimum of two years professional experience in the areas of brewing, cellar operations, and filtration is highly preferred.

    Additional Information to consider before applying
    •The physical demands and work environment of this position include: •Ability to manually push /pull / maneuver torpedo on wheels; full - 1,000lbs / empty - 500lbs
    •Ability to climb, balance and work at heights greater than 35’ accessible by stationary ladders
    •Ability to pick up, drag or carry 1 ½” to 2” hoses
    •Occasionally lift and/or move more than 100lbs
    •Exposure to wet and/or humid conditions, hot or cold liquids and surfaces, fumes or airborne particulates, toxic or caustic chemicals and moving mechanical parts

    •This is a full-time position, scheduled to work at least 40 hours per week
    •Work schedule requires the ability to rotate through three shifts (early, swing, and night shifts), including weekends and holidays

    The selected candidate will be required to pass a post offer, pre-employment background check and physical.
