Head Brewer
The Catskill brewery is seeking a Head Brewer with a minimum of five years brewing experience. Brewer must have a strong background in recipe development, and a track record of both consistency and excellence in product.
Our brewery is located in a small, but growing rural town in The Catskill Mountains in Upstate New York. The brewery is close to over 3,000 acres of natural land, pristine rivers, and lakes. The area is home to skiing, trout fishing and many other outdoor activities. This is balanced by our close proximity to New York City where we have recently launched our products.
In our brief ten-month history, we have received strong support from our local community, and coverage from both local and national press (mentions in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Travel and Leisure) We have also experienced excellent support from the market, and are recording strong growth in sales in both the Catskill region, and in New York City where the beer has been well received. We are currently adding additional tank capacity, a canning line for retail sales, and a champagne bottling system for a barrel aged and sour program as demand for a restaurant focused product is growing quickly.
This position presents the rare opportunity to work in one of the most sustainable breweries in the country in a beautiful natural area, while growing a brand in one of the world’s most influential cities. Salary will be on the high end of market salaries for a head brewing position, and will include vacation, a strong benefits program, and the potential for an equity stake in the brewery. We are seeking a dedicated brewer who wants to make great beer with us, and we plan to compensate him/her well, and treat the role as a partner position.
The Catskill Brewery is a sustainable production brewery dedicated to the promotion and preservation of the Catskills and its natural environment.*The Catskill Brewery is dedicated to using the best ingredients, and providing the freshest local beer in the Catskills. We endeavor to use local labor, and local ingredients whenever possible. The brewery seeks to be one of the greenest breweries in the country in both its systems and its practices. The brewery is heated and cooled by geothermal systems, powered by solar, and features a green roof, and an electric car charging station. The brewery is efficient in energy and water use, and repurposes spent ingredients to be used by local farmers as animal feed.*The brewery is currently under review for LEEDS certification, and hopes to be certified as Platinum or Gold under LEEDS guidelines. This certification will place us as one of the greenest breweries in the country.
