  • 11 Tap Draft Dispenser Temp Retention

    Aloha Brewers,
I recently bought a new Glass Tender three door draft serving unit with an eight tap dual tower and a single 3 tap tower. It has been set to 45F and has a 5 degree shift up before the compressor kicks on and cools down again. Everything seems to be normal, and i sealed every crack with silicone on the towers and all, but the system only holds temp for about twenty minutes before having to turn on and cool down again. Is this normal? or do i have a leak somewhere. We chose the all stainless unit. There are about five people being served at a time at the bar, so maybe it just works harder when pulling the liquid from the taps?

    Refrigeration matters

45 may be considered warm for a draft box in the USA Most would likely run 40.
Why would you think 20 minutes off cycle is a problem?

I figured if the box is sealed then it would just hold temp for awhile longer before having to cool down again.

Think about it. You have a small volume, with a small thermal mass inside, and a lot of surface area. Even with good insulation and sealing, you're gonna be using some energy to keep that thing cool. The larger the cooler, the more efficient (in most cases). While volume increases by the cube, surface area increases by the square.
