    Position: Head Brewer at Thunder Island Brewing Co.

    Overview:
    This is a full-time Head Brewer position with Thunder Island Brewing Company, an adventure-based 7-barrel brewery that is handcrafting creative and innovative beers in the Pacific Northwest. Based forty-three miles east of Portland in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge town of Cascade Locks, OR. We are looking for a Head Brewer who is self-motivated and has experience operating and growing a commercial brewhouse, including management of brewhouse operations including production, packaging, maintenance and quality control.

    Essential Skills:
    Strong math, science, and analytical background.
    An understanding of general electrical and mechanical concepts.
    Minimum Two years of commercial brewing experience.
    Knowledge of both traditional and innovative brewing techniques and styles; passion for continued education.
    Attention to detail, cleanliness and presentation.
    Strong organizational and communication skills.
    Extensive knowledge of OSHA and safety standards.
    Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and leadership skills required.
    Positive outlook and attitude, with the ability to think on your feet and work as a team.

    Job Responsibilities:
    Oversee all brewhouse operations and management of brewhouse employees.
    Create and develop progressive and innovative beer recipes to meet taproom and distribution demands.
    Experiment and take lead on brewing limited release beers as opportunities arise.
    Manage brewhouse inventory, including securing hop contracts, ordering grains and other necessary brewhouse supplies.
    Manage production to optimize quality, efficiency, and reduced costs.
    Oversee quality assurance/quality control.
    Oversee the design, maintenance, and improvement of systems that create and deliver our products and services to meet taproom and distribution demands.
    Attend industry events, give tours, lead tastings, attend festivals and special events as needed.
    Provide information as requested by Sales/Marketing in regard to beer descriptions, tasting notes, and information needed for marketing materials.

    Work Environment
    Physical strength and agility necessary with the ability to lift 55 lbs. repeatedly.
    Able to lift full kegs and maneuver heavy equipment.
    Able to climb ladders
    Work in small and confined spaces.
    Work safely with chemicals with reasonable safety accommodations.
    Work in loud environment with basic safety accommodations.
    The ability to work on your feet
    The ability to work a flexible schedule including a rotating schedule of early morning, late evening, and weekend work.

    You have relevant educational background (i.e. degree(s) and/or completion of a recognized Brewing Program).
    Knowledge TTB and governmental regulatory requirements.

    Compensation and Benefits
    Compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
