Entry Level Brewer Wanted
Beards Brewery opened in August 2012 and is Petoskey, MI’s oldest operating brewery. We are currently undergoing an expansion into a 15 bbl production facility while maintaining our current 1 bbl taproom in beautiful downtown Petoskey. We are seeking a qualified candidate to join our tight knit team as a brewer and cellarperson at our Petoskey location.
TITLE: Brewer/Cellarperson
REPORTS TO: Head Brewer
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform all brewhouse operations including wort production, hop handling, malt handling, spent grain handling, yeast harvesting, transferring beer, kegging beer, CIP cycles, keg washing, and general cleaning/organizing.
Ensure that all work is completed according to Beards Brewery’s SOPs and safety standards.
Maintain accurate brewing and cellaring notes.
Notify Head Brewer of any inventory deficiencies.
Perform quality control checks of beer throughout the fermentation process, clarification/carbonation process, and when beer is kegged for service at the pub.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS
Strong cleaning and sanitizing skills.
Familiarity with the brewing process.
Ability to safely handle and work with hot wort, caustic cleaning chemicals, and pressurized vessels.
Extreme focus on the task at hand.
Strong desire to learn.
Willingness to take direction and adhere to SOPs.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work nights, weekend, and holidays.
Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds employing traditional lifting methods.
Some production brewing or homebrewing experience preferred.
Complete and utter passion for beer.
We are a rapidly growing brewery looking for the right person to train. There will be opportunities for advancement within the brewery as the production facility grows as well as occasional pilot recipe input on our 1 bbl system.
