    Description of Responsibilities:
    The Brooklyn Brewery and Restaurant Associates is looking for a Head Brewer who will be responsible for producing beer and assisting in the education of students in the brewing class. The position will be based at The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY and the beer made in the brewery will be served on campus, and possibly at other locations. The new 7-barrel brewery is located inside the new CIA Student Center, beautifully positioned over the Hudson River on CIA's 170-acre campus. The Brewer will be required to travel to Brooklyn from time to time. The Head Brewer will work with Brooklyn Brewery and CIA to create signature, seasonal, and collaborative beers. The head brewer will also be in charge of brewing and maintaining beer of excellent quality.
    Required Qualifications
    Education
    Associate’s degree in science or brewing or equipment. If the degree is not in brewing then a recognized brewing technical certification is needed.
    Experience
    Minimum four years working experience as a professional brewer; those previously positioned as head brewer or lead brewer will enjoy an advantage here.
    Duties
    • Fully able to produce, cellar, and package beer for on-campus restaurants without direct assistance
    • Work collaboratively with Brooklyn Brewery on production of the beer
    • Work 40 hour schedule; daily schedule will change based on production needs
    • Assist with loading of raw materials and other products; maintain inventory of such products
    • Able to fill out all proper paperwork in accordance with State and Federal laws and regulations
    • Be an ambassador for “The Brooklyn Brewery at The CIA”



    Required Skills
    • Full understanding of brewing science, brew house, and cellar operations
    • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
    • Strong interpersonal skill; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively work with multiple teams across the organization
    • You must be an open and good communicator. Respect for fellow co-workers, supervisors, managers and students.
    • Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive student issues with confidentiality and discretion.
    • Strong computer experience, which must include abilities to work effectively with MS Office Suite products.
    • Strong organizational skills; detail-oriented and thorough
    • Ability to work independently or in a team environment, and maintain collaborative relationships with all members of the hospitality and service management team as well as class professors
    • Must have an excellent and welcoming presence in front of guests and employees
    • Moderate to strong presentation skills are required
    • Performing preventative maintenance based on established schedules ensuring that daily, weekly, and annual maintenance is performed.
    • Recording all necessary data for quality assurance and regulatory requirements, and raising & discussing any issues with R/A, CIA and Brooklyn Brewery
    Other Requirements:
    • You should have a strong focus on quality, safety and efficiency, constantly evaluating work practices in the spirit of “always improving”.
    • You must be able to lift up to 55 pounds repeatedly and maneuver 75 lbs. kegs as needed.
    • Must be able to twist/turn, reach over shoulders and stand/walk on a continual basis.
    • Work on your feet for over eight hours at a time.
    • Work in loud production environments.
    • Work with chemicals of varying composition.
    • Work in damp/wet areas.
    • Ability to multi-task and follow standard operating procedures.
    • Strong mechanical ability with problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
    • A great attitude and passion for craft beer is required!
