  • Sprinklers under brew platform

Our Fire sprinkler contractor/engineer the fire department and our architect have emphasized that we need fire sprinklers under our brewing platform. Our brewhouse manufacturer said they have never heard of such a thing.

Our brewing platform is 7 feet high and is approximately 5ft by 18ft. The fire department is calling for 3 sprinkler heads.
Has anyone experienced this situation? Thanks for you help.

Any ledge over 4 feet needs to have a sprinkle head. If your platform has a solid deck then this rule apply.

What a wonderful way to cut your head open. I hate sprinkler heads in walk-in coolers for just that reason.

I take it you are using a direct fire kettle? That is a bummer.

No, we don't have a direct fire kettle. Although, that would perhaps make more practical sense for fire sprinkler heads. We have a two vessel system with an insulated MT/LT and a steam heated Kettle.

Yes that would be yet another example of unintended consequences from regulatory overreach. Although, a fire sprinkler head guard should mitigate the risk of head injury.
