    Job Description:
    The Packaging Manager oversees the packaging line team and all packaging equipment and processes. The ideal candidate will lead, coach and motivate the Packaging Department to ensure high quality products are produced safely and in a cost effective manner. The Packaging Manager works closely with the Production Manager, Packaging Shift Supervisors, Production Department, Maintenance Department and Logistics Department to insure the highest quality packaging of beer. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of high speed packaging equipment, prior experience in a manufacturing environment, and an impeccable eye for detail along with the understanding of the cleanliness required in a beverage production facility. The Packaging Manager is responsible for the packaging department’s adherence to all of Tröegs Brewing Company’s rules, regulations and policies as well as all Quality Assurance requirements which include HACCP and GMP to ensure the safety and quality of Tröegs beers. The Packaging Department operates 24-hours a day and this position must be able to occasionally offer support on both nights and weekends.

    Managerial Duties and Responsibilities:
    Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.• Adheres to and advances the safety culture of the brewery, enforces company safety policies, is accountable for the safety of the Packaging Department, and serves as a member of the Safety Committee.
    • Alerts the Production Manager and Quality Manager to potential quality concerns.
    • Promotes an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork within the Packaging Department.
    • Attends and contributes to daily production meeting.
    • Leads daily meetings with the members of the Packaging Department and assigns daily duties.
    • Confirms all volumes, batch numbers and schedule concerns related to the day’s production.
    • Ensures the packaging staff follows sanitary procedures and policies.
    • Ensures the packaging staff is in attendance and ready to begin the day’s work.
    • Monitors time and attendance for staff, and responsible for payroll submission.
    • Evaluates packaging staff performance via QPI program and annual performance reviews.
    • Effects disciplinary measures when necessary.
    • Works with the Maintenance Manager to schedule all preventative maintenance functions and documentation of said tasks are completed in a timely manner.
    • Counts and maintains inventory of packaging materials and schedules deliveries/drops through the warehouse.
    • Minimizes wastage by monitoring and controlling process and equipment performance.
    • Maximizes output by reducing downtime throughout the packaging process.

    Skills and Attributes Necessary for this Position:
    • A minimum of 3 years management experience in a manufacturing/production environment.
    • Awareness of OSHA regulations, GMP, State Agricultural practices/policies, TTB regulations, plant safety regulations, FDA guidelines for food plant operations and environmental regulations regarding manufacturing brewery operations.
    • Possesses working knowledge of high speed packaging equipment.
    • Understanding of World Class Manufacturing and ability to leverage those principles through KPI’s (such as OEE), and use tools like Root Cause Analysis to maximize operational efficiency.
    • Possesses basic machinery/system technical troubleshooting skills and knowledge of computerized equipment.
    • Exhibits the flexibility needed to respond to frequent changes in production requirements and/or systems and equipment failures.
    • Exhibits familiarity with process control systems, computerized data logging systems and basic electrical systems, to include the components of various systems such as pumps, valves, timers, relays, etc.
    • Able to work well independently and with a team, often in close physical proximity.
    • Possesses working knowledge of the cellar process.
    • Able to operate a forklift.
    • Able to work in a shared office environment and be respectful of others.
    • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, is computer literate, and has both experience and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Able to pass a pre-employment physical and background check.

    Work Environment:
    Tröegs Brewing Company is a climate-controlled brewing and packaging facility. The following is a representative list of what a co-worker might encounter during a typical work day:

    • Hot water,
    • Steam,
    • Pressurized vessels, and
    • Loud working areas.

    Co-workers regularly handle hazardous materials and regularly come in contact with broken glass and wet floors while working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts.

    Work Schedule:
    • 40 hour minimum work week, with extended hours as required.
    • Varying schedule covering all shifts as necessary to include 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts.
