  • Using iceboater for chilling wort

We have an issue with our water getting close to 15C in the summer time, which means an enormous waste of time and water when cooling 13HL of wort.

However we can get crushed ice relatively cheap and easy and we are going to try it out tomorrow.

Unfortunately my knowledge about thermodynamics is lacking and I am in doubt which method is best:

    1. Submerging a very long copper coil in the ice/water slush and press water through it into the chiller.
    2. Pumping the ice/water slush directly in to the chiller.

I assume method no 1 is more efficient? Is that correct or have I overlooked something?
