Poseidon Brewing Company is located in beautiful Ventura, California, which is ideally situated 50 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara just off historic El Camino Real Highway 101. Poseidon is a small, local, craft brewery that opened in August 2014 and has quickly became known for quality beers, superior customer service, and a great atmosphere. We take pride in living up to our mantra of brewing “Ales With Depth.” Demonstrated by brewing over 30 distinct and well-balanced beers to date ranging from blonde ale to our ever popular Grapefruit IPA, Double IPA and Imperial Stout. Our goal is to become a well known player in the California craft beer scene and to achieve a regional distribution. We are seeking a talented brewer to uphold our stellar reputation and who is committed to long-term future growth and expansion of Poseidon Brewing Co. This is a generalist position. The right candidate has a passion for craft beer and is a motivated team player with a ‘Can Do’ attitude, who possess industry expertise and technical prowess.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Others may be assigned
• Brewhouse Operations: Milling, Mashing, Lautering, Boiling, Whirlpooling, Knockout, Grains out, Brewhouse Vessel CIP (incl Heat Exchanger)
• Cellar Operations: Fermenter CIP/Scrub/Sanitation, Cell Counting, Checking Gravities/ Monitoring fermentation (Incl. Glycol Controls), Capping/ Chilling/ Dryhopping schedule and procedures, Yeast Disposal (Grains out), BBT Cleaning and Sanitizing, Recording fermentations, Reading BBT levels and recording, Checking DO and CO2 in beer
• Packaging Operations: Carbonation of beer in BBT, Filtering/ Finning, Cleaning firkins and Casking beer into firkins, Cleaning kegs, kegging beer from BBT, Checking CO2 in beer.
• QA Operations: CO2 Volume testing, PH Readings, Cell Counts, Pitch Rates, Gravity Measurements, DO Measurements, Process Sampling, Yeast Viability Measurement and Generation Tracking, Taste Panel for consistency, water treatment testing
• Admin & Logistics: Keep Daily Record of Activities accurately and legibly documented. Track recipe and all other cost associated with brewing. Track and Order raw materials, all necessary cleaning and sanitizer chemicals, brewers salts, and finning agents.
• Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance and minor repair of brewing equipment and facility
• Standard: The Brewer will operate brewing equipment effectively, efficiently, accurately and safely to produce high quality beer according to Poseidon’s operating procedures and parameters while ensuring immaculate cleanliness of the brewing facility.
Required Experience/Qualification/ KSAs:
• 2-3 years commercial brewing experience, and College education or trade equivalent
• Degree in Fermentation or Brewing Science or completion of brewing science cert is a plus
• Physical strength and agility necessary with ability to lift 55lbs repeatedly
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in math
• Ability to work in a diverse environment, flex hours, days, nights, and weekends
• Knowledge of traditional and innovative brewing techniques and styles; Creative thinker
• Inventory management and QC techniques, diligent record keeping, with strong computer skills
• Proficient in recipe development
• Mechanical knowhow and savvy
