  • Setting up Manual Power for a 7BBL Electric Kettle

    Hey guys,

I'm looking for a hand setting up manually switched power for a 7BBL. The budget doesn't allow for a expensive control panel at this time, so I'm looking to start with 3 15kw elements and need help with the set up.

Do I just run 3 50amp 3phase circuits with a switch box and outlet at the end to manual turn the elements off? I've read you turn 3 on to boil, than shut one down but I'm looking for anyone that has done this type of setup before

    Thanks,
    Brian

    Controls

Brian, if your elements are 3 phase, you could run 3 circuits as you have described, but you definitely need to incorporate some controls into such an arrangement with that much power involved. Otherwise it would be dangerous to a degree and self destructive with human element involved.
An example would be running the elements with contactors and having at least a Thermostat, Low Water cut out,and some high limit controls on that side of the circuit. Your vessel needs to be configured for safety controls.
My suggestion would be to look at some Electric Systems of that scale and see how they are set up.

What you have planned is exactly how our 9bbl kettle is. Three 15kw elements wired directly into three 60amp safety switches.
