    Job Summary
    The Director of Brewing is responsible for all aspects of the brewing and packaging process, aligns department objectives with those of the entire organization and supports/develops all employees within the Brewing Department. This includes managing growth initiatives while ensuring consistent quality, production and team leadership. The Director of Brewing manages a leadership team including a Production Manager, QA/QC and maintenance team. This person models a balance of the passion and fun of working in the craft beer industry with the business and leadership skills required to drive progress and get the job done right.


    Key areas of Responsibility
    • Oversees all brewery operations including production, packaging, maintenance and Quality Control.
    • Responsible for the hiring, training and development, coaching, and performance appraisals for the brewery leadership team.
    • Oversees the development, implementation and evaluation of improvement initiatives designed to facilitate greater production efficiencies and quality.
    • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of short-term and long-term production planning.
    • Translates overall company business strategy into operational goals and objectives for the brewery.
    • Collaborates on all production activities and creates schedules in accordance with sales forecasts and demands.
    • Works closely with the Production Manager to monitor staffing, expenses, and resource management to fulfill organizational requirements.
    • Researches industry trends to continuously evolve the brewery operations standards.
    • Works closely with the brewery leadership team to audit brewery shifts (brewing, packaging, cellaring, cleaning, etc.) to ensure that procedures and protocols are being upheld.
    • Regularly inspects the brewery to ensure operations are in alignment with company quality, sanitation, and safety standards.
    • Assesses equipment improvement projects and purchases to maximize benefit from capital investments.
    • Ensures a safe working environment for employees by maintaining facility and equipment in optimal working conditions.
    • Collaborates with the brewery leadership on the development of brewery policies and procedures.
    • Devises standard operating practices for the brewery.
    • Works closely with the VP of Finance to establish key metrics and develops plans to provide accurate lean accounting and inventory control to support the managers and drive cost effective actions.
    • Uses financial statements, sales reports, and other data to measure production performance and determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.
    • Communicates regularly with the entire brewery staff to keep them apprised of brewery objectives and performance level.
    • Provides review and oversight of Quality Assurance/Quality Control techniques and procedures to continuously improve the quality and consistency of our products.
    • Participates as an active member of Hangar 24’s senior leadership team
    • Collaborates on new beer development, including recipe creation, evaluation of new ingredients and styles.
    • Assumes a teaching role in staff development program creation, implementation and evaluation.
    • Serves as a beer ambassador, representing the company in speaking engagements throughout the country

    Qualifications
    • BA/BS in a natural science, business, engineering, or related field.
    • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience within a brewery environment.
    • Solid working knowledge of and passion for the craft beer industry.
    • Excellent leadership skills with the proven ability to lead and motivate team members.
    • Proven decision making and analytical skills.
    • Prior experience in a fast paced environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement a long-term plan while multi-tasking, prioritizing and easily adapting to changing situations.
    • Professional and proficient verbal and written communication skills.
    • Intermediate-level proficiency with analytical software, such as Excel.
    • Acute sensory perception. This requires the ability to distinguish subtle differences in color, taste and smell.
    • Intermediate level knowledge of MRP software.
    • Enthusiasm for jumping into the process as a willing participant.


    Work Environment
    • Warehouse environment with manufacturing hazards, such as hoses and chemicals, and hot temperatures
    • Travel is generally limited to industry conferences occurring once or twice a year and promotional activities once or twice a month
