BREWER & CELLARMAN
Lighthouse Brewing Company Inc. is an established and growing craft brewery located in Victoria, BC. We are currently recruiting for one experienced Brewer & Cellarman to join our team.
Reporting to the Brewing Supervisor, the successful applicant will be required to perform a variety of duties within a very active production facility. Early morning, afternoon and occasional weekend shift work will be required, and therefore flexibility is necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Brew beer in an environmentally friendly 15,000hL/annum brewery.
• Be responsible for all stages of brewing from malt preparation to conducting multiple brews per day and resetting the brewhouse for the next day’s production.
• Be aware of goings on in the brewery to ensure your own safety as well as tasks other’s will be performing, i.e. Safety is everyone’s responsibility
• Measurement and regulation of brewing parameters including specific gravity, fermentation temperatures and pressures.
• Conduct transfers of beer from fermentation to conditioning cellar
• Operate a range of beer filtration equipment
• Tank cleaning and yeast management
• Co-ordinate byproduct transfer to local farms and businesses
• Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment
• Perform minor mechanical fixes and maintenance on pumps, hand valves, and other equipment used on a day-to-day basis
• Adapt to an evolving environment as priorities and production shifts or changes
• Proudly represent Lighthouse Brewing Company at events, during tours in the plant, and give tours as necessary
• Contribute to a culture of open communication and mutual respect
• Conduct tasks in an environment that ranges in temperature from 20+ to below 5°C
• Take initiative to improve the workspace
• Perform numerous other plant duties as required
Requirements:
You are a self motivated worker that enjoys a variety of physical and intellectual tasks. You have a passion for craft beer and are able to articulate that during product tastings, recipe discussions, public events, and other venues. You are able to work unsupervised- yet side by side with other workers, and manage your own time to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner. An understanding and respect for continuous improvement, and top quality are essential. This is a physically demanding position that requires constant walking, ducking, crouching, lifting, carrying, hauling, pulling, digging, thinking, rolling, etc, in an eight hour shift.
In addition, there are unpredictable tasks that arise on a day-to-day basis that you must be willing to complete. This can include requests from the sales team, creating cask beers for events, helping around the brewery as necessary, recipe formulation, attending social events, etc. A Brewer & Cellarman must always put the team above the individual and take tasks and responsibilities on as needed, pursuing them with the same passion, care, and attention to detail as s/he does every other task. Flexibility is critical.
To be considered for this role you will have at least 2 years of direct brewhouse and brewery experience. Completion of post-graduate brewing studies will be well regarded.
