JOB TITLE: Brewer
LOCATION: Geneva, IL
JOB DESCRIPTION
Penrose Brewing is an up-and-coming production brewery located in Geneva, Illinois, a Western suburb of Chicago. With a primary focus on Belgian-inspired brewing and fostering a culture of positive, forward thinkers, we are in search of an experienced brewer to join our innovative and growing team. The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of the brewing process, as well as a refined understanding of the flavor profiles inherent in Belgian styles and barrel- aged beers.

This is a full-time position requiring flexibility in schedule, including weekends and evenings. Compensation will be dependent upon experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience at a production brewery or brewpub is a must
Brewing education from Siebel or other recognized school is preferred
Forklift Operation Certification
Physical Demands / Working Conditions
Must be able to lift 35 lb. cases of beer, 44 lb. boxes of hops, 55 lb. sacks of grain, and move 165 lb. kegs of beer
Flexibility to work non-standard work hours and alternate locations for events as necessary
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position of brewer goes well beyond solely brewing beer. We expect our brewers to assist in every facet of the brewery, including but not limited to:
Safety Management
- Ensuring the safety of all Penrose team members and patrons throughout the facility.
Brewing Operations
- Collaborating with brewmaster and other Penrose staff members
- Running large and small brewhouses
- Developing recipes for new Penrose beers
- Accurately weighing, milling and evaluating grain
- Propagate, transfer, harvest and evaluate yeast
- Transferring beer and performing cellar duties
- Cleaning and filling kegs
- Bottling/Packaging beer
- Maintaining inventory
- Basic equipment and brewery maintenance
- Cleaning tanks and brewhouse equipment
- Shipping and receiving deliveries
Community Development
- Assisting at events
- Carry on intelligent conversation about beer styles and Penrose offerings
- Guiding brewery tours
BONUS POINTS

- Familiarity with the term “Elbow Grease” and willing to use where / when necessary
- A fine collection of plaid, flannel and Carhart
