  • Changing grains in Flex-Auger

Currently, our two Flex-Auger systems are each dedicated to a single grain. We are contemplating adding another silo, the grain in which to be changed seasonally. How much grain would we need to run to be sure the auger would be clear of the old grain?

Not having placed the silo yet, the rough estimates of the auger would be: ~12' long, 8' rise, 3" auger.

I don't have an answer for you there. I can tell you that at the last brewery I worked at that had a flex auger (from the grist case to the MT) we would simply run the auger for an extra minute or two after the grist was done running and never noticed any problems with carry over from one batch to the next. The auger had about a 35' run and seemed to empty pretty well after the fact. I would guess it held about a bags worth of grain but I may be very off on that count.
    I hope it helps some

    Cheers
